System Hardware Requirements and Recommendations

Summary

This page contains the list of PC hardware that is required for support on specific operating systems. In addition to the required hardware, there are some recommended configurations for each of the operating systems. In order for any system to be considered for support by ECN, it MUST meet the minimum requirements for that particular operating system.

Windows 2000 Professional

Below are the minimum requirements for systems running Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional.

Windows 2000 Server

Below are the minimum requirements for systems running Microsoft Windows 2000 Server or Advanced Server.

Memory 256MB 512MB
Hard Disk 10GB (5400RPM) 20GB (UDMA/100 or SCSI U2W, 7200RPM)

Windows XP Professional

Below are the minimum requirements for systems running Microsoft Windows XP Professional.

Bundled System Support

The bundled systems listed below are supported by ECN. Divergence from these bundled systems may result in reduced or no support. If you have questions about a particular machine, please be sure to consult with your site specialist or by sending mail to software@ecn.purdue.edu.

Additional Support Notes

  • The Professional versions of Windows support only 1 or 2 processors.
  • Slower hard disks will GREATLY affect system performance when the system has 128MB of memory or less in it.
  • All hardware in a system MUST be on the corresponding Windows Hardware Compatibility List.
