Provided by The ECN Micro Group

NOTE:
If you are adding a new BDC or have changed the IP address on an existing BDC, please send email with the new IP address to software@ecn.purdue.edu with the subject New BDC or Update to [site] BDC.

NOTE:
The figures shown on this page are provided to give you an idea of what you should basically see when following these instructions. You will not necessarily end up with the exact results shown.

The steps below provide instructions on how to properly configure the WINS server service on an ECN Windows NT BDC.

  1. Open Control Panel and double-click the Network icon. This will bring up your network settings.
  2. Select the Services tab. Click Add and look for Windows Internet Name Service. Finish by clicking OK to install the service. If asked to reboot, reboot the machine.
  3. Go to the Administrative Tools group and look for the icon labeled WINS Manager. Double-click it to open it.
  4. If your BDC and/or ARCTICWOLF do not show up in the WINS Server list, select Server->Add WINS Server from the main menu. When prompted, enter the corresponding IP address of the WINS server to add. You will need to add at least your BDC and ARCTICWOLF to the list.

    NOTE:
You can find out what a machine's IP address is by using the nslookup command at a command prompt.

You should end up with a window similar to Figure 1.
