Tecplot 360 2016 Installation

The College of Engineering's (CoE) licensing agreement with Tecplot covers only the CoE, not all of Purdue. Only people affiliated with the CoE may use the license on the PULS website. If you are affiliated with the CoE then the license covers all faculty, staff and students. Purdue owned as well as personally owned systems. You can get the Tecplot software at:

https://engineering.purdue.edu/PULS/

under Visualization/TECPLOT

The following instructions are for systems NOT currently under ECN support or "self-supported" systems. If your system IS under ECN support then we have a different process to install Tecplot on your system. Go to this link and ask for the software to be installed on your system:

Updating the license file

If you have an existing Tecplot 360 installation and your license has expired skip below to the "Off campus licensing" section and follow the instructions.

Installing Tecplot 360

Windows (64-bit)
Once you've downloaded the executable from PULS double click on the file to start the installation. During the installation you will be asked for a License number. Use the following:

License number: L15388-6634

After the installation is finished launch the application. Once Tecplot comes up it will complain that it doesn't have a valid license. Select OK and the "Tecplot Licensing" window will open. The information requested on the License window depends on whether the machine is primarily located on campus or is a personally owned laptop or home system.

**If your machine is going to be primarily located on campus use this information:

       License Type: Network
License Server Name: tecplot-license.ecn.purdue.edu
        Port number: 1735

Select OK and you should now have a valid license to run Tecplot.

**If your machine is a laptop or home system then you need to set up off campus licensesing. Skip below to the "Off campus licensing" section and follow the instructions.

Macintosh OS X (64-bit)
Once you've downloaded the Tecplot DMG file from the PULS site double click on the file to install Tecplot. Just follow the directions. Once the new Tecplot folder in your Applications folder launch the application called "Tecplot 360 EX 2015 R1". Its going to complain that Apple doesn't know who the developer is (depending on your security settings). If you get this warning go to System Preferences->Security & Privacy->General. At the bottom of the window it should list the Tecplot error again. Select the "Open Anyway" button. If the button is greyed out then click on the lock in the bottom left corner and log in as an admin first.

If you successfully launched Tecplot it will complain that it doesn't have a valid license and the "Tecplot Licensing" window will open. The information
requested on the License window depends on whether the machine is primarily located on campus or is a personally owned laptop or home
system.

Linux
Once you have downloaded the "tecplot360ex_linux64.sh" file from the PULS site move it to a tmp directory on the Linux machine you are installing it on. Once there run the installation script and accept the license agreement. For example:

shell# cd /tmp
shell# sh tecplot360ex_linux64.sh

Put in the target location you want tecplot installed at if the default it not what you want. Hit return. The script will then install tecplot to the target directory. The licensing depends on where your machine is located. **If your machine is going to be primarily located on campus then edit the file <TARGET LOCATION>/tecplotlm.lic. At the bottom of the file replace:

HOST licenseserver 0 27100

with

HOST tecplot-license.ecn.purdue.edu 0 1735

Close the file and you should have a valid license to run tecplot. **If your machine is a laptop or home system then you need to set up off campus licensesing. Skip below to the "Off campus licensing" section and follow the instructions.

Off campus licensing

To be able to use Tecplot off campus you must use the "License Roaming" feature. This must be done ON CAMPUS or you must connect your remote machine to an on campus network via the Purdue VPN. See the following to learn how to do that:

http://www.itap.purdue.edu/connections/vpn/

Now that your ON CAMPUS or CONNECTED to the VPN:

Launch tecplot and select from the Help menu:

Help > Tecplot Licensing

Add the following settings:

License Server Name: marina.ecn.purdue.edu
       Port numnber: 1735

Now,  FROM ON CAMPUS, select the Help menu again only:

Help > License Roaming

It will download a license from the license server that will again allow use off campus and off network. You should only have to do this annually. If you have any problems the report it via the following link:
