Setting the Correct Modem Baud Rate

If the default modem baud rate in Works 3.0 is incompatible with your modem, you can use Windows Control Panel to set it correctly. To determine what baud rate Works is using, choose Communication from the Settings menu. If it is higher than what your modem supports, you easily can change it by following these steps:

  1. Close Works. In the Program Manager Main group, double-click Control Panel and then Ports.
  2. Select the COM port used by your modem and click Settings.
  3. Change the baud rate to match your modem speed, and click OK.
  4. Close the Ports dialog box, and close Control Panel.
  5. Restart Works, and create a new communication document by clicking Communication in the Startup dialog box.
  6. From the Settings menu, choose Communication and verify that the rate matches the one you typed in Control Panel.
