Overview of WebDAV with Zope

WebDAV.org has an brief definition of what WebDAV is:

WebDAV stands for "Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning". It is a set of extensions to the HTTP protocol which allows users to collaboratively edit and manage files on remote web servers.

WebDAV is a set of rules for communication between a web server and a WebDAV client. There are several WebDAV applications available including, MS Word, cadaver, MS Front Page, Netscape Composer, MS WebFolders. Check the individual software documentation for configuring each client.

Because of the dynamic nature of Zope, using a WebDAV client requires you to specify a location to access document source. This causes Zope to send the pre-rendered body of a document to your WebDAV client. This may be HTML code, DTML code, or code to a python script.
