Mac OS 8 and 9: Keyboard Shortcuts
Note: These shortcuts are just a summary of SOME useful shortcut commands. This is not intended to be a complete list. If you are looking for OS X keyboard shortcuts, try the listing at the following address: http://davespicks.com/writing/programming/mackeys.html.

To copy an icon into another folder(instead of moving it) | OPTN - drag the icon |
To close all disk and folder windows |
OPTN - click any window's close box OR |
To move a window without making it active | CMD - drag the window |
To open a pop-up menu of the folders and disk that contain this folder | CMD - point to the window title and drag through the pop-up menu that appears. |
To close a window after opening one of its icons | OPTN - double-click the icon |
To rebuild the Desktop file | CMD - OPTN |
To turn off all system extensions when starting up | Hold down Shift while computer starts up. |
To eject floppy disk (to avoid using it as the startup disk) | Hold down mouse or trackball button while computer starts up. |
To bypass startup disk when starting up | Hold down CMD - Shift - OPTN - Delete |
To startup from a CD (usually a system CD) | Put the CD in the drive, and reboot; as the computer starts up, hold down the C key. |
To reset the Chooser and Control Panel settings (stored in parameter RAM) | Hold down CMD - OPTN - P - R while computer starts up |
To force the computer to restart when the pointer is frozen (on some models) | CMD - CTRL- Startup Key |
To restart or shut down the computer (on some models) | CMD - OPTN - Shift Startup Key |
To erase a disk automatically when you insert it | Hold down CMD - OPTN - Tab |
To force a frozen program to quit | CMD - OPTN - Esc |
To take a snapshot of the screen | CMD - Shift - 3 |
To unmount a mounted volume | CMD - Y |
