ECN Accounts: Logging In and Out
Logging in
Logging in is the first procedure required to enter your computer account and access the software provided for you.
At a Windows workstation, simply follow the directions onscreen and enter your login and password when prompted.
At a Linux workstation you will be asked to enter your login. Your login usually includes your name in some way. Once the login has been entered, a prompt asking for your password will appear.
For security, it is wise for you to change your password regularly.
Logging out
On a Windows machine, click on the "Start" menu and choose "Shut Down". From the drop-down menu, select "Log Off username" and click OK. One some Windows machines, there will be a "Log Off" option in the Start menu. If so, you can simply click that to log off.
On a Linux machine, click the "Exit" button on your control panel to log out. If working from a UNIX prompt type: control-d (this is accomplished by holding down the control key and at the same time pressing the letter d). If you are using a windows manager, first quit and then at the UNIX prompt type: control-d.
