The next screen will read "Add ZWiki Web" with a form to fill out. To fill out the form:

  1. Create an ID that will be part of the URL address. Make sure there are no spaces or else the ID will not be valid (example: my_wiki). Don't include file extensions in the ID.
  2. Create a Title that will be easy for you to remember. The format does not matter for titles, just name it so that you know what it is when you browse your folder later (example: Mathematica Wiki Fall 2003).
  3. Click the check box beside "(and enter)" and click "Create Wiki".

After you Click "Create Wiki", you will enter your FrontPage. The FrontPage has some helpful introductory information on how to use your new Wiki. Take some time to explore the advice in your FrontPage.

Now you are ready to start building your Wiki. To add new pages to your Wiki,

  • Notice that your title at the top is a hyperlink; if you click it, you can view all of the pages with backlinks for your page.

Now that you have created a Zwiki Page, you must format it for use on the web. One aspect of Wikis that makes them attractive to many people is the use of Structured Text to create the page. Some basic Zwiki Page features

If you would like to use the Zope Management Interface to build your wiki:

  1. Enter your Wiki Folder (example: people/qualified.name.1/Restricted/testwiki). Here you will see everything that is already in your wiki, including the FrontPage and the HelpPage.
  2. Click on the pull down menu at the top right and select "Zwiki Page".
  3. Click the "Add" button.
  4. Create an ID that will be part of the URL address (example: page1). Make sure there are no spaces or else the ID will not be valid. Don't include file extensions in the ID.
  5. Create a Title that will be easy to remember for organizational purposes. The title should be descriptive enough to help you remember what your file is.
  6. If you already created a page format that you would like to use, you may upload your existing file by using the File...Browse option.
  7. When you are finished entering information about the new Zwiki page, press "Add and Edit".

    To Edit Existing Pages:
    • Click on the word Edit at the top right of the page you would like to change.
    • Edit the code or content of the page as you see fit
    • Click Save at the bottom right of the page to save changes

Depending on how you want your wiki to operate, you may want to put restrictions on your wiki. To set up a non-public wiki, create a Restricted Folder within your Personal Folder. This will aid in granting permissions to your Wiki later in the process. To create a Restricted Folder, visit our knowledge base document on How do I create a Restricted Folder

For more information about how to construct and edit your wiki, explore your FrontPage and HelpPage.
