Adobe Creative Cloud

2017:

We do not have the ability to install Creative Cloud at this point (March 2017). We are working with ITaP to obtain current install media and instructions on authentication and use of Adobe's Creative Cloud Suite. The inconvenience is regretted, please let us know if you have any questions about this: http://www.purdue.edu/ecn/contactus

2016 (This information is obsolete as of Dec 31st, 2016):

We'll try to summarize the Adobe Creative Cloud Licensing contract and costs as best we can here.

When the original licensing contract was signed between Purdue and Adobe, it was primarily for the use of Adobe Acrobat. The current license agreement covers Acrobat Pro installations for all Purdue owned equipment, while the agreement is in effect.

During the negotiations, Purdue and Adobe also got the existing installations of Creative Suite converted to licenses for Creative Cloud - but there is a twist to this part. An educational license for Creative Cloud costs about $220. So, at the simplest level, if you pay $220 (with a Purdue account number); you can get access to Creative Cloud for your Purdue owned machine.

If Purdue does not have as many installations as the agreement covers, there is no additional charge for the install. if Purdue installs more than this number, the payment to Adobe needs to be adjusted appropriately - at the time of the next Adobe license negotiation. This is where the complexity comes in. Since ECN does not have the ability to transfer the money from your account number to ours with a future intent to be used to pay for Adobe licenses, the best answer we can come up with is:

"You'll be charged between $0 and $220 for a time period of between 2 to 4 years. Please provide an account number for $220 that will be valid for at least 3 years".

Which sounds exactly as crazy as it appears to be. Our apologies for the complexity of this situation!

This article deals with Purdue owned equipment. You can avail of CC for your personally owned computers via the ITaP online shopping page, where it is deeply discounted.
