ACMAINT transd errors

Note: The transd_log file contains a list of the ACMAINT messages It exists in a different location on an HP than it does on Sun's...

Sun: tail -f /var/adm/log/transd_log
or
HP: tail /var/adm/transd_log

Sometimes one request can not process, and this request will prevent any newer requests from processing, until it is handled.

This Error messages on an HP

Mark said that the first thing to try was to edit the /etc/passwd file by hand and put an entry in. Then the acmaint command could process the stuck request.

Or, if this machine is about to be retired, we can ask Rob to remove the pending request.

   ah> show host vise4 *
hostName: vise4.ecn.purdue.edu,
transdHost: vise4.ecn.purdue.edu
hostClass: HPUX10

So, there is no /etc/smbpasswd file... instead there is:

 # pwd
/tcb/files/auth/w

(directory of logins by the first letter...)
#ls
wachtel wang wfeng wilma wolfgang
waitou wencheng willey windoro www

Actual important part of the Error message:

Oct 12 15:31:22 vise4 acmaint3_transd[6367]: get_passwd(): Starting.
Oct 12 15:31:22 vise4 acmaint3_transd[6367]: open_pw_files(): Starting.
Oct 12 15:31:22 vise4 acmaint3_transd[6367]: get_gecos(): Starting.
Oct 12 15:31:22 vise4 acmaint3_transd[6367]: open_gecos_files(): /etc/gecos.tmp: File exists.

Solution: rm /etc/gecos.tmp

Error message:

command = modifyAccount whitept.ecn.purdue.edu kacker homeDir /home/metamer/d/kacker
Unable to obtain '/etc/smbpasswd' information for 'kacker'.

Contact your system administrator.

-----
# ls -ls /etc/smb*
16 -rw------- 1 root root 7223 Sep 17 09:59 /etc/smbpasswd
# grep kacker /etc/smb*
# wc /etc/passwd
84 200 4989 /etc/passwd
# wc /etc/smbpasswd
59 149 7223 /etc/smbpasswd

Normally Mark would rebuild the file with a nifty little program
he has (t.pl whitept)

---

added

kacker:5055:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx:Dhiraj Kacker:/home/metamer/d/kacker:/bin/csh

to bottom of /etc/smbpasswd on whitept.

Solution: edit by hand the /etc/smbpasswd file and add entry
