Apple Scholars in AI/ML Fellowship

Call for Applications: Apple Scholars in AI/ML Nomination for Fall Start 2025
 
 
Purdue can submit applications for up to three outstanding graduate students doing exceptional and innovative research in 12 areas identified by Apple:
 
  • Privacy Preserving Machine Learning
  • Human Centered AI
  • AI for Ethics and Fairness
  • AI for Accessibility
  • AI for Health and Wellness
  • ML Theory
  • ML Algorithms and Architectures
  • Embodied ML
  • Speech and Natural Language
  • Computer Vision
  • Information Retrieval,
  • Ranking, and Knowledge
  • Data-Centric AI
Grad students must apply to be considered for nomination.
 
 
**Deadline to submit your nomination packet: Thursday, August 1st at NOON ET**
 
 
What does the fellowship provide?
  • Gift amount covering full tuition and fees (enrollment fees, health insurance) for (2) academic years
  • $40,000 USD gift each year to help with living expenses and related expenses
  • $5,000 USD gift each year to support research-related travel and associated expenses
  • Mentorship with an Apple researcher
  • Potential internship opportunities during their fellowship*
              * Internship offers are dependent on student status, and contingent upon necessary requirements for
                employment being met according to relevant employment law.
 
 
Who is eligible?
  • Nominee must be enrolled full time at Purdue at the start of Fall 2025, and expect to be enrolled through the end of the 2025/2026 academic year
  • Nominee should be entering their last 2-3 years of study as of Fall 2024
  • Nominee must not hold another industry-sponsor sponsored full fellowship while they are an Apple Scholar in AI/ML (Fall 2025 to Summer 2028)

How do I apply to be a Purdue Nominee?
1. Open and complete the following online application: https://redcap.link/apple2024
    Note: You can save, return, and modify your application until the due date of 8/01/24
 
2. Within this online application:
        a. Download the Review Panel Commitment Form to be signed by your Director of Graduate Programs, or equivalent position, naming a faculty member to serve as a reviewer and email to
            trainee-funding@purdue.edu ASAP (but before application deadline).
        b. Upload as a single PDF in this order:
                   i.      Your student CV and publication list with links to publications
                  ii.      Research abstract (200 word maximum)
                 iii.      Research statement covering past work and proposed direction for next 2 years       
                          (5 page maximum including citations, in a legible font size)
                 iv.      2 letters of recommendation, one from current advisor (1 page maximum per letter)
 
 
When will I learn if I am selected as a Purdue Nominee?
  • Nominees will be notified the last week of August and have one week to polish their applications before Purdue uploads them to Apple’s portal.
