Professor Enrique Iglesia Wins 2023 Faraday Lectureship Prize

Enrique Iglesia, the Michel Boudart Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering at Purdue University, has been awarded the Royal Society of Chemistry’s 2023 Faraday Lectureship Prize.

Enrique Iglesia, the Michel Boudart Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering at Purdue University, has been awarded the Royal Society of Chemistry’s 2023 Faraday Lectureship Prize.

The Faraday Lectureship Prize was established in 1867 to celebrate exceptional contributions to the chemical sciences, particularly in the realm of physical chemistry. Awardees are honored with a medal, certificate, £3000, and a UK lectureship tour.

This distinction is typically bestowed upon the greatest chemists in the world, including numerous Nobel Prize laureates in physical chemistry. The unprecedented recognition of an engineer with this award underscores the profound impact of Professor Iglesia's research.

Professor Iglesia joined Purdue University's Davidson School of Chemical Engineering in 2023, following distinguished roles at UC-Berkeley and Exxon. He holds membership in esteemed organizations such as the National Academy of Engineering, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the National Academy of Inventors, and the Real Sociedad de Ciencias Exactas (Spain). He is also a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), the American Chemical Society (ACS), and the Royal Society of Chemistry. Moreover, he is an Honorary Fellow of the Chinese Chemical Society and previously served as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Catalysis.

His accolades include the Somorjai, Olah, and Murphree Awards from the ACS, the Alpha Chi Sigma, Wilhelm, and Walker Awards from the AIChE, and numerous distinctions from the North American Catalysis Society (NACS), including the Emmett, Burwell, Boudart, and Distinguished Service Awards. He has received the Gault Lectureship from the European Federation of Catalysis Societies and the Cross-Canada Lectureship from the Chemical Institute of Canada. Additionally, he has been honored with the ENI Prize, the Kozo Tanabe Prize, the Natural Gas Conversion Award, and the Noyce Teaching Prize. Enrique Iglesia has co-authored over 360 publications and holds nearly 50 issued patents. His pioneering contributions to catalysis and chemical reaction engineering address some of the most pressing challenges in energy conversion and utilization.

Professor Iglesia’s lectureship tour will begin May 8th, 2024, where will present his research at the University of Liverpool, University of Cardiff, University of Oxford, and Imperial College London, South Kensington Campus.
