Arvind Varma, Purdue's R. Games Slayter Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering and head of the School of Chemical Engineering, has been honored in a special issue of Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research magazine. 

The magazine published the "Festschrift," a collection of research papers in its Dec. 3 issue in recognition of the "many and very significant research contributions to subjects of interest to readers of this journal on the occasion of his 60th birthday," said the journal's editor, Donald R. Paul. "Our journal has a long tradition of doing special issues in honor of a colleague," said Paul, a distinguished professor of chemical engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. The journal publishes five to eight Festschrifts annually.

Dr. Varma has been also honored in the 50th anniversary year of the founding of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Technology. He was among the three inaugural recipients of the departments Distinguished ChE Alumnus award. Simultaneously, he also received a Distinguished Alumnus Award of Panjab University.

Panjab University was established in 1882, as the fourth in India after the Universities of Bombay, Calcutta and Madras. Its well-known graduates include the current Prime Minister of India, Dr. Man Mohan Singh, and Prof. Har Gobind Khorana, 1968 Nobel laureate in physiology or medicine.
