Degree Requirements for Internship Track

30 or 41 credits required for graduation + approved industry internship.


Overview

This track is designed for students who secure industry-based internships during the program. It adds practical experience while maintaining academic rigor.*

Structure

  • Available to students in all CHE PMP concentrations and at both West Lafayette and Indianapolis campuses.
  • Must be declared during the first semester when submitting the Graduate Plan of Study.
  • If no internship offer is received by the set deadline, students are automatically moved to the standard (non-internship) track.

Degree Requirements

30 or 41 credits required for graduation + approved industry internship

  • 6 credits of required Core Courses
  • 9 credits of approved Concentration Electives
  • 9 credits of approved Management/Business Courses
  • 6 credit Capstone Project (completed before, during, or after internship)
  • 11 credits of undergraduate pre-requisite courses for students without an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering.

Internship Details

  • Maximum duration: 2 semesters, including summer, with a single employer
  • Students remain classified as full-time during internship semesters
  • The program and school do not guarantee internship placement

Note: Students are responsible for securing internship offers and must meet Purdue CPT guidelines.

*Internships may be classified as a coop depending on specifics of the offer.  For international students, this will be a CPT that will require applying for CPT through our International Students and Scholars Office.
