Prospective Professional Master's Students

Whether you are a recent graduate of a STEM program wanting to further your education or a current professional wanting to advance your career, the Professional Master’s Program (PMP) in the Charles D. Davidson School of Chemical Engineering (ChE) at Purdue University is for you. Integrating subject matter across disciplines, the PMP focuses on industrial practice and design to help you increase your technical and business skills and prepare you for a successful career in industry.

About the Program

The PMP is a 1-1.5 calendar year, residential (on-campus) program consisting of a combination of rigorous coursework in chemical engineering, business and management, and a summer research project. Students can tailor their coursework by focusing their efforts in one of five key areas of chemical engineering that best aligns with their interests and career goals.

Experiential Learning

The cornerstone of the ChE Professional M.S. Program at Purdue is our experiential capstone project program, wherein students work on open-ended problems over the course of 12 weeks during the summer semester. In this program, students have the option of choosing a 6-credit hour industry-based or academic-based capstone project. Industry projects typically consist of teams in which a group of 2-4 students work with a mentor from a company while students working on academic projects join the laboratory of a Purdue Chemical Engineering faculty member. This program is designed to give students professionally relevant experience where they can utilize the knowledge gained from their PMP courses and apply it in real world context.

Upon completing the program our graduates are prepared to be technical managers and can communicate, negotiate, and lead people and projects within a global engineering enterprise in various roles. The PMP confers a terminal Master of Science in Chemical Engineering degree - meaning it does not advance toward the PhD in chemical engineering at Purdue. After graduation students immediately enter the workforce with the skills and knowledge acquired from the PMP, beginning successful careers as chemical engineers in roles such as:
