Mr. Miller became senior vice-president for maintenance and engineering and a member of USAir's Executive Committee in 1979. In that capacity, he serves as USAir's chief engineer. USAir employs 12,500 people, serving approximately 70 cities coast-to-coast with 137 modern jet aircraft. As a senior officer of USAir, Mr. Miller is responsible for a staff of 2,500 people working in engineering, maintenance, planning, and administration. He has primary responsibility for engineering, technical, and financial input for selection of new aircraft, engines, systems, and related support equipment, including facilities. Several recent new aircraft acquisition programs were coordinated through his office, and he has been instrumental in implementing advanced communication and navigation systems, which have resulted in major improvements in the USAir fleet.
