Purdue trustees approve faculty promotions

Purdue University's Board of Trustees on Friday (April 10) approved faculty promotions. Promotions include Assistant Professors Karen Marais and Dengfeng Sun were promoted to associate professor with tenure; Associate Professor Dan DeLaurentis was promoted to full professor; Associate Professor Alina Alexeenko was selected to win one of this year's University Faculty Scholar Award.

Student research team receives best student poster award at 16th Annual CERIAS symposium

A School of Aeronautics and Astronautics team has received an award for best student poster at the 16th Annual Purdue CERIAS (Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security) Information Security Symposium. The team was led by Cesare Guariniello, Ph.D. candidate; co-authors include Ph.D. candidates Zhemei Fang and Payuna Uday. Cesare and Zhemei are students of Dr. Dan DeLaurentis and Payuna is a student of Dr. Karen Marais.

School of AAE's Dr. Michael Sangid receives Orr Early Career Award

Dr. Michael Sangid, School of Aeronautics and Astronautics faculty member, has been selected for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Orr Early Career Award. This honor comes in recognition of Dr. Sangid's seminal contributions to the area of experimental and computational fatigue, fracture, and creep.

Theoretical study suggests huge lava tubes could exist on moon; collaborative research team includes School of AAE and EAPS

Lava tubes large enough to house cities could be structurally stable on the moon, according to a theoretical study presented at the Lunar and Planetary Science Conference on Tuesday, March 17, 2015. The research team includes two professors and four students: Rohan Sood and Loic Chappaz are Ph.D. students under Professor Kathleen Howell in the School of AAE. Dave Blair is a Ph.D. student in EAPS; Colleen Milbury is a Post-doc in EAPS and they are working with Prof. Jay Melosh (EAPS and courtesy Prof. in AAE).

Purdue team puts Earhart on the moon with discovery of new crater

Purdue scientists have discovered a large, previously unknown lunar nearside crater revealed as part of NASA's Discovery Program, the Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory (GRAIL) Gradiometry.
