Commander Dan Radocaj is returning to campus and is eager to share insights from his unique career with AAE students.

Professor Pizza is a 50-minute candid and casual discussion between AAE students and the visitor. AAE provides pizza, students provide questions, and our visitor provides answers and more.

Radocaj’s first test flight experience was in March 1998 as one part of AAE’s second team of undergraduate students selected by NASA to design, build, and test an experiment in short duration weightlessness on the vomit-comet aircraft. This zero-g slosh payload was followed by another winning proposal, this one on a method to create foamed aluminum in weightlessness.

His master’s degree research on oil sump flows in Rolls-Royce engines began a long-running, multi-professor program in AAE which demonstrated how to improve the AE3007 and other RR engines and also aided in design of the lift-fan oil sump for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.

In 2013, Purdue’s Engineering Alumni Association awarded Radocaj the Young Alum Award for the "rapid advancement from Purdue AAE student to not merely pilot the historic first electromagnetic catapult launch, but to serve as the Project Officer leading the testing program of this revolutionary launch system, plus flying and management responsibilities during two tours of duty in the fleet, his Navy and Marine commendations, and his eagerness to return to Purdue to strengthen both the AAE curriculum and the extra-curricular educational opportunities for AAE students.”

AAE students are invited to participate actively in this casual and candid discussion opportunity
