Timeline to Apply
In the year preceding fall admission/enrollment into the Ph.D. in Engineering Education program, you are encouraged to follow the following timeline of activities and deadlines:
August through November
- Request information from us by filling this form
- Register for and plan to attend the ENE Graduate Programs Open House in the fall
- Explore funding opportunities
- Explore ENE's research and current grant projects. Identify research areas of mutual interest with our faculty and contact them to arrange a time to talk
- Read some of the field-shaping reports in engineering education, many authored by our faculty
- Browse alumni profiles and student testimonials
- Learn about the Engineering Education Graduate Student Association and the American Society for Engineering Education/Purdue Chapter
- Learn about the Purdue University College of Engineering and its graduate program rankings
September through November
- Attend the ENE Graduate Programs Open House
- Identify three (3) references for writing recommendation letters; obtain their emails and contact information
- International applicants should take the TOEFL and have scores submitted to Purdue
- Apply through the Office of the Vice Provost for Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Scholars and pay the application fee
- Order two (2) official paper copies of transcripts from all institutions attended
November
- Initiate your application so that all components are completed by Dec. 1
- Mail your paper transcripts to the ENE Graduate Programs Office OR have electronic transcripts sent 1) directly from the institution you attended to gradadm@purdue.edu or 2) to Graduate Admissions through SCRIP-SAFE. Applicants whose transcripts are not in English must submit original-language transcripts and certified official English translations of those transcripts.
December
- Submit your Statement of Purpose, Research Statement, CV, and Teaching Statement (see the Application Glossary for instructions)
- To be considered for all funding opportunities, ensure that the Purdue Graduate School receives all supporting materials (transcripts, reference letters, exam scores) by Dec. 1
- We will continue to accept any missing application materials through January 1, and once we have received your complete application package, you will be considered for whatever funding is still available
February through April
- Expect an email from us regarding how your file is progressing through the review process
- Compare competitive offers by taking time to evaluate not only the gross monthly stipends but also the cost of living in other geographic areas
- Visit Purdue University's main campus in West Lafayette, Indiana
May through July
- Accepted students will receive orientation materials over the summer. Visit the community (Home of Purdue, West Lafayette) and make arrangements to live here
- To help us project class enrollment and more efficiently allocate instructional resources, we ask that all admitted students confirm they will enroll for the fall term by July 1
August
- Two weeks before the fall term begins in August, be ready with a place to live, etc.
- Plan to arrive on campus before the Monday of orientation week. Orientation activities will be scheduled throughout that week. In addition to the orientation sessions hosted by the Purdue Graduate School on topics such as TA training, harassment, safety, diversity, academic integrity, and other events on campus (e.g., student organization callouts), ENE will hold its own orientation session.
- International students will have an additional orientation, but remember that our current graduate students (from India, Iran, Taiwan, and Turkey as well as many other countries) are a great resource for learning the area and local customs
