SQL Databases

Backing Up SQL Databases on PC's...

Databases need to be backed up on B4. (backfour)

Instead of datalists, schedule files are in barlists:
F:\omni3.5\Config\Barlists\*SQL

You can't edit the schedule file with Unix, you have to use a PC, or you will own it, not "root".

sql 7 has incr, full, trans (trans is transaction log)
sql 6.X has full or trans only.

It takes 9 lines for ONE database:

master:0
model:0
msdb:0
Northwind:
plus user files...

        --------------------------------------------------------------
1. master 8 MB 3 min ( 238 Mb/h)
2. model 1 MB 1 min ( 3135 Mb/h)
3. msdb 9 MB 1 min ( 4275 Mb/h)
4. Borman_Expressway 1028 MB 12 min ( 5400 Mb/h)
5. borman2SQL 4 MB 1 min ( 5864 Mb/h)
6. Northwind 4 MB 1 min ( 5512 Mb/h)
7. test9 3 MB 1 min ( 3803 Mb/h)
8. pubs 2 MB 1 min ( 4935 Mb/h)
9. adp2SQL 2 MB 1 min ( 3600 Mb/h)

Sum: 1056 MB 15 min ( 4528 Mb/h)
--------------------------------------------------------------

There is an account (administrator for database) called "sa". You need the password.

Using the local root password, it blows up.

Sample schedule file:

  BARLIST "civl3125cpc1-squeel"
OWNER root sys back.ecn.purdue.edu
RECONNECT
DYNAMIC 1 5
DEVICE "dlt4"
{
-concurrency 1
-sync
-buf 1
}

CLIENT "MSSQL70" civl3125cpc1.ecn.purdue.edu
{
-exec sql_bar.exe
-args {
"-dev_n:1"
"backupall"
"-n:1"
}
-public
} -protect weeks 52

Note: For now, use "notepad" to edit this file, and it doesn't end in ".txt".
