		Dear ECE Alumni and Friends, I am particularly proud of the many new programs we are launching to support our students’ diverse success pathways. Our new affordable online master’s program, starting in January 2020, expresses our continuous commitment to Purdue’s land-grant mission in the modern era. Through this program, we are equipping our students with the depth and breadth of knowledge and relevant skills needed to succeed in today’s engineering world while offering them the prestige, affordability and flexibility they want in a Master’s degree. At the same time, we are enhancing our on-campus programs by offering new and unique experiential-learning opportunities at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Purdue ECE takes online Engineering education to next level Purdue ECE is at the forefront of post-graduate learning with a new online education offering. The Schools of Civil Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering are planning to offer affordable online Master’s programs through edX with support from Kaplan Higher Education. This is the first comprehensive engineering post-graduate curricula provided online at less than $25K for master’s degrees. Purdue is ranked among the top ten engineering programs and top five online engineering graduate programs in the U.S.
‘Poor man’s qubit’ can solve quantum problems without going quantum It may still be decades before quantum computers are ready to solve problems that today’s classical computers aren’t fast or efficient enough to solve, but the emerging “probabilistic computer” could bridge the gap between classical and quantum computing.			Purdue ECE partnering on 5G research to improve ag automation Purdue University scientists are collaborating with colleagues at North Carolina State University and others on fifth-generation (5G) and beyond wireless network research that holds promise for improved farm machinery automation.
				MSEE building opens two new spaces for students ECE recently dedicated two new spaces in the MSEE building. The Max W. Brown Atrium is the new center of student life for ECE, while the Bill and Shirley Rice Design Studio will serve as our new innovation facility. These facilities stand as monuments to ECE’s ongoing commitment to being the first, the best, or the only in our field.
Two ECE professors named to the Highly Cited Researchers list for 2019 Two Purdue ECE professors have been named to the list of Highly Cited Researchers 2019 from the Web of Science Group. Vladimir M. Shalaev, the Bob and Anne Burnett Distinguished Professor of electrical and computer engineering, and Peide “Peter” Ye, the Richard J. and Mary Jo Schwartz professor of electrical and computer engineering are among more than 6,000 highly cited researchers in various fields from nearly 60 nations.			$14.5M for nanoHUB will keep technology pipeline flowing As of October 2019, The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded Purdue University $14.5 million to renew funding for another five years for nanoHUB/Network for Computational Nanotechnology (NCN) – a unique, global cyber-community for simulation, research, collaboration, teaching, learning, and publishing
Dean's Doctoral Fellowship: Pursue excellence in Electrical and Computer Engineering In celebration of Purdue College of Engineering's 120th anniversary, the Dean is launching a new class of Ph.D. Fellowships to recognize and cultivate top engineering talent. CoE Dean's Fellowships are competitive awards granted to individual scholars pursuing Ph.D. research in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
