FYE Transition Registration Information

Spring 2012

Students completing FYE requirements during spring 2012 will meet with their intended professional school advisor to receive advising and PIN numbers for summer and fall 2012 registration.

If this is your fourth semester in FYE, you will not be advised until grades have posted.  Please see the FYE policy for fourth semester students for more information.

Registration and Scheduling

Registering for courses can be easy, if you follow these steps:

  • Make an appointment by seeing Sandy in FRNY 1057 between March 23nd - March 27th.  She is available daily 8am-noon and 1-4:30pm
  • Prepare for your advisor meeting and watch your Purdue e-mail for additional instructions.
  • Students who no not schedule an appointment during the designated time frame or miss their scheduled appointment will not receive PINs prior to their time ticket.  Those students will be provided appointments during delayed registration beginning April 23, 2012.
  • As a second semester freshman, it’s important not to get too far ahead of yourself for this transition appointment.  While it’s important to notify your advisor of your intention to pursue minors, study abroad, honors, etc., this particular appointment is focused on summer/fall registration.  Additional meetings can be scheduled later to sort through detailed questions regarding your future semesters.
  • Prepare for online myPurdue registration
  • When your Time Ticket date arrives, register for courses using myPurdue
  • Pay your tuition and fees
  • Change your schedule after registration, as needed.

School of Chemical Engineering Orientation Meeting

All students transitioning from FYE to the School of Chemical Engineering must attend a mandatory orientation meeting

Thursday, March 22nd

6:00PM

FRNY G140

We realize the transition between FYE and professional school can be confusing and chaotic.  This meeting will provide students with a great deal of information and is designed to answer many of the common questions student have about the curriculum requirements as well as provide very important information about the School and academic policies.  No particular materials are necessary but you may want to have paper and a pen/pencil.

Time Ticket Information

A “Time Ticket” is a range dates and times you are allowed to register for courses on myPurdue based on your classification.  You can see your Time Ticket beginning on March 12.  Log into myPurdue, click on the Academic Tab and then on the Registration Status link.

Your Time Ticket might look a little strange at first.  It will have several lines. The first line indicates the day and time you can start registering. The two lines of times combine to make one continuous block of time.  For example:

April 16, 2012  01:00 pm - April 16, 2012 11:59 pm

April 17, 2012  12:00 am - April 21, 2012 11:59 am

In the above example, you could begin registering at 1:00 p.m. on April 16 and can continue to make additions and changes through April 21 at noon.  Remember that 12:00 a.m.= midnight and 12:00 p.m. = noon.

Here are the estimated Time Tickets for the Summer and Fall 2012 registration.  Your classification (freshman, sophomore, etc.) is based on the number of credit hours you have completed and passed (F's don't count).  These hours do include advanced placement, foreign language placement credit, and transfer credit.

Before Meeting with your Advisor

IMPORTANT: On myPurdue, verify your local and permanent addresses, as well as your emergency contact information. Click on the “Academic” tab. At the top left of the page below "Quick Links" and "Personal Information" are several links to update this information.

  • Print out the appropriate Plan of Study
  • Mark the courses you’ve taken and are currently taking on the plan, so you know which courses you still need to take.
  • Access any of the Registration Resources you need in order to make course decisions.
  • Determine and record your intended courses on the Form 23A provided by Sandy when you schedule your appointment.  This form MUST be completed and WITH YOU when you attend your advising appointment

Prepare for Registration on myPurdue

  • Check for holds on myPurdue by clicking on the "Academic" tab, then on the "Do I have any Holds?" link under "Registration Tools" category.  Clear any Holds you may have as soon as possible to ensure your ability to register for classes.
  • Start looking up courses and times using the "Look Up Classes" link under the "Academic" tab on myPurdue.
    • Check each course for pre-requisites and restrictions.  These are indicated by an "R" in a gray circle on the far right of the page.
    • Look for the Red Flag icon!  This means that this course has multiple, linked sections that must be added simultaneously.  These other sections might be labs, recitations, or practice-study-observations (PSOs) that accompany the lecture.
  • Use a Schedule of Classes Grid to write down both the time and date of a course section along with its CRN (Course Registration Number). This will make it easier to add courses on myPurdue.

Watch for your Time Ticket under the "Academic" tab.  As soon as you are allowed to register, do so to obtain the best times.  If you have done your research, this should go smoothly.  However, if you run into problems, please contact your advisor!

After Registration

Tuition and fees must be paid before the date printed on your e-bill, available on myPurdue. If your payment is not received prior to the start of the second week of classes, then your registration will be cancelled. You will then be charged a $200 late fee after re-registering for classes.

Changing Your Schedule After Registration

  • Open registration for all students starts April 23rd, 2012.  You can do this from any computer with an internet connection as long as you have your Alternate PIN available.
  • Make all schedule changes BEFORE the first day of classes.  If you don't, you risk losing your seat in your class.  Starting on the first day of classes in any semester, students can no longer re-add sections they have dropped.  This makes it impossible to change courses with multiple sections without standing in long lines at your advisor's and the Registrar's office.
  • Lost Your Alternate PIN?  Once you have used your PIN at least once, you can look it up on myPurdue by clicking on the “Academic” tab, then “Registration PIN”, and finally select the term.
