Research Areas

Prof. Slabaugh's research is focused on the physics of fluid mechanics and combustion in the operating regimes of advanced propulsion and energy systems. Ongoing projects cover a wide spectrum; from fundamental exploration of turbulence-chemistry interactions and detonation wave propagation to development of advanced combustion technologies, including high-pressure swirl combustors and rotating detonation engines. The group also maintains a continuous effort in the advancement of high-bandwidth (typically, laser-based) measurement techniques to non-intrusively probe the physics of these high-power, reacting flows. The Slabaugh Research Group operates within the Zucrow High Pressure Laboratory (ZL3 and ZL8).
