Abstract

Join us for a webinar exploring Purdue Innovates, a comprehensive system supporting technology commercialization, intellectual property (IP) protection, and enterprise creation at Purdue University. Operated through the Office of Technology Commercialization and the Purdue Incubator, Purdue Innovates evaluates and safeguards Purdue’s IP with an accessible in-house team of patent experts and licenses innovations to industry and startups. Attendees will learn about streamlined processes, such as the online invention disclosure system and a dedicated commercialization team, which engage and empower Purdue innovators. Recognized as one of the most robust technology transfer programs among top U.S. research universities, the Office of Technology Commercialization ensures the translation of research into market-ready solutions. Additionally, the Purdue Incubator accelerates entrepreneurial success through mentorship, education, market analysis, business model development, and startup formation, helping students, faculty, and alumni bring their ideas to life.

Biography

As a Business Development and Licensing Manager (Physical Sciences) with the Purdue Research Foundation’s Office of Technology Commercialization (PRF-OTC), Vasekar collaborates with innovators from Purdue University to create strategies for the development of Intellectual Property (IP) and its successful commercialization. His focus is on engineering and physical sciences fields. Vasekar plays a vital role in evaluating the commercial potential of technologies, finding suitable licensing partners, formulating business terms and legal contracts to facilitate technology transfer, and overseeing the negotiation and execution of commercial licensing agreements.

Vasekar holds a BE and ME in Metallurgical Engineering from Pune University, India, MS in Materials Science from Vanderbilt University and PhD in Materials science from the University of Central Florida. His domain of expertise is materials science, semiconductors and photovoltaics. Vasekar has worked in academia and industry in various capacities prior to joining OTC.
