Summer Internships: EEE 39699 Professional Practice Internship Course flyer
Purdue Engineering has waived fees associated with coop/internship courses to encourage all students to enroll so that Purdue can ensure students have a valuable work experience and adequately track experience data. Students enrolled in EEE 39699 will have tasks in a Brightspace course that Ms. Whelton administers. This is a 0-credit course that will allow you to document your work experience on your permanent Purdue transcript, with a time commitment of approximately 2-3 hours total. Course dates are: June 15-Aug 4. The course requires permission; when you submit your request please include the company name and your position title. Email Ms. Whelton (mwhelton@purdue.edu) with questions.
There are several benefits of registering for EEE 39699 while completing a Work Integrated Learning Experience such as Co-op or Internship. Students enrolled in the course will be able to:
-
Identify and articulate their individual growth in specific technical and professional skills as a result of the experience.
-
Create a record of what was gained through the experience, which will be beneficial for future interviews, resume writing, the overall job search, etc.
-
Internship Course documented on your transcript for future employers to see proof of experiential learning
-
Receive valuable feedback from their employers.
-
Stay connected: During the internship or co-op experience, students are connected to campus via their course instructor.
-
Provide feedback to Purdue about workplace satisfaction, salaries, benefits, etc.
-
Help Purdue become the #1 university in the U.S. for co-op and internship programs, increasing the value of the Purdue degree.
In addition to registering internship experiences, students may later become eligible to enroll in the co-op program and earn a co-op certificate which will show on the transcript.
-
One working session has to happen in the fall or spring
-
Two working sessions need to happen with the same employer
MATH Courses NEW Summer Exam Policy
The Department of Mathematics has encountered challenges in administering exams for students who take courses remotely during the summer. To ensure fair and consistent exam conditions for all students registered for these courses, beginning in Summer 2026, the Department of Mathematics will require that all exams be taken in person, either on campus or at an approved testing center. Testing centers must be certified by an independent agency, such as the NCTA. When taking courses remotely, it will be the student’s responsibility to locate an appropriate testing center near their place of residence. Students will also be responsible for any fees charged by the testing center. For example, Purdue Testing Services charges a fee of $35 per exam. This policy is intended to maintain academic integrity while providing students with reasonable options for completing their exams. Students located near Purdue have the option to take exams on campus (at no cost through the Math Department) with in-person sections of the course. The Purdue Testing Services may also be an option but will involve a cost to students (as noted above).

Job Corner with Ms. Whelton, PE
Career fairs for the spring are still occurring. There are two more career fairs this month that may have some EEE opportunities.
FNR Career Fair-February 20th 10 am-3pm PMU North & South Ballrooms
This is a great, smaller fair for EEEs especially if you’re interested in ecological engineering. There are also several modern environmental engineering companies and organizations attending-American Structurepoint, Lafayette Renew, Lochmueller Group, US Army Corp of Engineers, and V3 Companies. UDSA, IDEM and DNR are also attending. A full list of companies is found here. This fair is not on the career fair plus app. If you’re looking for a job opportunity, I highly suggest you attend this fair.
Ag Career Fair-February 25th from 10am-2:30pm at the CoRec
Another fair at the end of the month you may attend is the College of Agriculture Spring Career Fair. If you have limited time, I always recommend EXPO in the spring semester and suggest skipping the Ag Fair. This fair is also not on the career fair plus app. All the companies that attend will be ag focused. Since it is through the college of agriculture you will need to look at the majors that are environmentally related. You should be able to see the majors and specific positions here. Remember any company that makes something needs an environmental engineer for environmental regulations, not to mention sustainability goals.
Just in Time Career Fair April 15th from 10am-3pm in PMU Ballrooms
As of now, the Ag Fair will be the last (EEE related) career fair until the “Just in Time” career fair on April 15th. You never know which or how many companies will come to “Just in Time” as it is those still looking for employees.

LEED Green Associate Certification
EEE students should understand that LEED is one professional certification. Earning a PE license in engineering requires considerably more education, knowledge and experience, and all EEE graduates are qualified to eventually earn a PE license, which is significantly more valuable. On occasion, an EEE student will ask about LEED. LEED is more within the domain of the Arch Engr group within Civil. The LEED Green Associate (GA) credential is the only entry level sustainability designation and shows employers and clients that you have certified knowledge in the green building industry. Most people can take a short course and pass the LEED certification test. As a courtesy, the following info is being provided. It is not required or necessarily endorsed.
LEED Green Associate (GA) Training - Webinar and Online self-paced options:
LeadingGreen will be offering live webinars that can be streamed on any of the following dates:

Questions may be directed to CivicsLiteracy@purdue.edu.
Professional Licensure & FE Exam: What is it? When to take it? How to prepare?
The Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is typically the first step in the process leading to the P.E. license. It is designed for students close to finishing their engineering degree or recent graduates. The FE is a computer-based exam that is administered year-round at NCEES (National Council of Examiners for engineering and Surveying) approved Pearson VUE test centers. FYI – Purdue has an approved test site. The FE contains 110 multiple-choice questions. The exam appointment time is 6 hours long, which includes a nondisclosure agreement, tutorial (8 minutes), the exam (5 hours and 20 minutes), a scheduled break (25 minutes), and a brief survey.
What is professional licensure all about and why is it important? Learn more at https://www.nspe.org/sites/default/files/resources/pdfs/GR/2017handouts/2017%20-%20What%20is%20a%20PE%20document.pdf
The SEE website has an information and resource page - click here. This page highlights NCEES, the Environmental Exam, links to various sites to register for the FE, what study sessions are offered on campus (not all apply to EEE, though), how to purchase study guides, and other resources to consider.
SEE FE Exam Reimbursement Program for EEE Seniors
The SEE FE Exam Reimbursement Program is meant to encourage and support EEE students to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam during their time at Purdue. It offers 100% reimbursement with a passing score and 50% reimbursement for a failing score on the FE. Once the student takes the FE, they are to provide proof of their test date and score along with an itemized receipt to Dr. Robinson, nlrobins@purdue.edu. The deadline for a reimbursement request is the last day of the month in which the student graduates. Only one reimbursement per student will be allowed.
FE Environmental Engineering Review Manual
The SEE office has this manual available for check out - all 754 pages! The manual includes sample questions for each test section of the exam, and step by step solutions are provided. Seniors are welcome to this manual for loan for a 72hr period to review and study. See Tammi Thayer in the EEE office to check out the manual.
