Fusion

Thermonuclear fusion continues to be of high interest as a primary energy source within the twenty-first century. To ensure its promise of providing an almost unlimited source of energy, research is continuing, not only at the national laboratories, but also at the major universities. The School is collaborating with several national laboratories on both magnetic and inertial confinement researches for advanced fusion device concepts. Such concepts include the Compact Tori, Dense Plasma Focus, and Heavy-Ion Fusion. Two-phase liquid metal systems operating in the presence of magnetic fields, useful for fusion blankets, are studied theoretically and experimentally.
