Honnappa receives NSF grant

Assistant Professor Harsha Honnappa has been awarded an NSF grant for his project “Transitory Stochastic Models: Analysis and Optimization”. Honnappa is the Principal Investigator. The grant comes from NSF’s Civil, Mechanical & Manufacturing Innovation (CMMI) division and will run thru July 2019.

Wu wins ORAU award

On May 5, Assistant Professor Wenzhuo Wu received this year’s Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award for his research on 2D piezoelectric semiconductors for developing a new class of electronics that can be controlled by mechanical signals.
This award will run for one year.

Duerstock interviewed for two articles

IE’s Associate Professor of Engineering Practice Bradley Duerstock was interviewed for two recent articles. One was on disability awareness for the April 7 issue of Nature: International Weekly Journal of Science, and the other was about his “RoboDesk” invention for the May 19 issue of All Tech Considered.

Calculated Risk: A new biography about Gus Grissom

On June 15, Purdue University Press will publish Calculated Risk: The Supersonic Life and Times of Gus Grissom. Written by George Leopold, the book chronicles the life of the late Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom, Purdue's first astronaut and one of the three astronauts killed in the January 27, 1967, Apollo 1 launch pad fire. Purdue IE’s home, Grissom Hall, is named for him.

Lee and Moshref-Javadi win 2016 ISERC Best Track Paper

Associate Professor Seokcheon Lee and PhD student Mohammad Moshref-Javadi received the 2016 Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE, formerly IIE) Industrial and Systems Engineering Research Conference (ISERC) Best Track Paper in the Logistics and Supply Chain Track. Their winning paper is entitled “Formulations and Valid Inequalities for Minimum Latency Problem with Split Delivery”.
