Honnappa's July 19 award lecture is titled "An Introduction to Transitory Queueing Networks." He received the Takács Award, named after the Hungarian mathematician Lajos Takacs, for his PhD thesis titled "Strategic and Transitory Models of Queueing Systems." The Takács Award is a bi-annual award presented for doctoral dissertations in recognition of outstanding contributions to queueing theory, including the development of theory, methodological advances, computational aspects and applications. The award is accompanied by a certificate, a cash prize, and an invitation and travel funding to deliver a plenary talk at the conference.

ECQT's goal is for scientists and technicians to find a discussion forum to promote research, encourage interaction and exchange ideas. The first such event was hosted in Ghent, Belgium, in 2014, and this second event took place in Toulouse, France, this week.
