Purdue IE Funding Priorities
Recruit and Retain Strong Faculty
Strong faculty are at the heart of "Rethink IE". To lead nationally and internationally, our school needs to keep and recruit the sharpest minds and most ambitious IE faculty working in areas such as health care, complex systems, manufacturing, and information engineering.
Funding needs include:
- Rising Star Professorship Endowments designed to recognize, retain, and recruit highly accomplished midcareer professors who are not yet candidates for full-term named professorships.
- Faculty Start-up Funds to outfit new faculty members with the tools (equipment, lab space, and perhaps staff) they need to be successful.
- Endowed Professorships to support faculty members who have brought distinction and recognition to Purdue through exceptional teaching and innovative research.
Provide Resources to Promising Students
Competition for outstanding undergraduate and graduate students is fierce. The best students often make their decisions among outstanding schools based on financial considerations. To compete successfully, we need to provide meaningful resources to promising students.
Funding needs include:
- Endowed Undergraduate Scholarships enable top students to attend who may not be able to otherwise, and enable us to reward their outstanding work.
- Endowed Global Experience Funds help us prepare future graduates for the global economy, so we want to support our students in at least one global experience.
- Endowed Graduate Support provides us the resources to recruit the highest quality graduate students required to perform cutting-edge global-impact research. To compete, we must offer grad students tuition and living expenses support.
Fund and Support New Challenges and Opportunities
Undesignated support is critically important in allowing us to be nimble in addressing programmatic needs or unexpected challenges and opportunities as they arise. This funding – provided in any amount - can be the difference between being a “good” or a “great” program in our quest for preeminence as we rethink the field of IE.
Funding needs include:
- Curriculum Innovation
- Online Education
- Discretionary Support
Create Collaborative High-Tech Facilities
Industrial Engineering has breathed new life into one of Purdue Engineering’s oldest buildings. While Grissom Hall’s outer façade has been preserved, the inside has been transformed to create a modern, highly efficient, high-tech environment teeming with opportunities for collaborative learning.
Funding needs include:
- Gateway Building and Lab Equipment
- Equipment and Lab Renovations to Grissom Hall is continually needed to maintain a cutting-edge facility that boasts of up-to-date labs with the latest equipment specific to the research being conducted.
- Ongoing Facility Support to provide our alumni and friends opportunities to leave a legacy supporting important facility projects and equipment.
