Duerstock interviewed for two articles

Nature magazine - April 7, 2016
IE’s Associate Professor of Engineering Practice Bradley Duerstock was interviewed for two recent articles. One was on disability awareness for the April 7 issue of Nature: International Weekly Journal of Science, and the other was about his “RoboDesk” invention for the May 19 issue of All Tech Considered.

The Nature article profiles several scientists who are furthering research and building rewarding careers in spite of physical disabilities. According to the article, “in 2015, the U.S. National Science Foundation reported that about one in nine scientists aged 75 or younger in the United States had a disability.” Keys to success often require a good support network, the ability to design their own equipment, and the need to seek work that capitalizes on their strengths. (Read about some of the assistive technologies Duerstock’s developed for himself and others in the “A flexible space” section of the article.)

The All Tech Considered's article features his "RoboDesk" prototype, which he is testing through his company, Prehensile Technologies. (Watch the RoboDesk 3.5-minute Video.)
