Spring Break Downtime

The Engineering Computer Network is preparing to install a new air conditioner in the MSEE 130H computer room. In order to make room for the AC Unit and the construction crew, approximately half of the existing computers must be moved. Most machines will need to move a matter of feet, but this requires some computer downtime and is the subject of this message.

The majority of this preparation will occur during the Spring Break week of March 16-21. Any major changes to the following schedule will be announced prior to any computer downtime.

The following machines will be shutdown for approximately two hours starting on:

Sunday, March 15th. at 3:00 PM
Fairway (Engineering Education, Dean's Office, Business Offices)
Materials (Materials Engineering)
Stargate (Delp Research server)
Sunday, March 15th at 5:00 PM
Wharf (central server)
Dynamo (ECE faculty server)
Min (ECE Grad student server)
Shay (ECE Undergrad server)
Pier (ECN Central server)
Monday, March 16th at 1:00 PM
Ecegrid (ECE student computation server)
Tuesday, March 17th at 9:00 AM

There will be brief network interruptions throughout the day, on both Thursday March 19th and Friday March 20th, for all machines residing in MSEE 130H.

All Solaris 10 workstations and servers will be rebooted during the evenings of Monday March 16th, Tuesday March 17th and Thursday March 19th. Each reboot should only take about five to ten minutes. Each system will be rebooted in groups by school. The schedule for each school is:
