Congratulations to AAE undergrad Jacques Barsimantov, whose essay was nominated for the 2018 Purdue Writing Showcase.

Jacques wrote an essay entitled "Exploring surfing through the evolution of materials and shapes" about how the development of new materials and designs over time has allowed the evolution of surfing. Here’s an excerpt from his paper:

“As demonstrated throughout this paper, we can see that the difference between the styles in the start of modern surfing and today have changed a lot due the difference in surfboard availability. These different types of surfboards have allowed surfers to create new tricks and challenge different type of waves, or even the same waves with different styles. Therefore, technology is indeed the key factor for the evolution of surfing through time, that has made surfing change since its history can be traced. New materials and shapes are continuously being tested, concluding that surfing styles will keep evolving in the future thanks to the evolution of technology related to materials.”

Every spring, the Introductory Composition and Professional Writing programs at Purdue host a Writing Showcase. The Writing Showcase is a day-long symposium that displays posters representing the year’s most innovative print and digital projects produced by English 106 and 108 students, professional writing students, and instructors.
