Deadlines 

Fall (August) entry:

For full consideration of funding support, all application materials need to be received by December 15 in the previous year of desired enrollment term. Applications received after may still be eligible for funding from some sources, like assistantships.

Final application deadline for on-campus programs is May 1 in the same year of desired enrollment term.

Final application deadline for the distance learning program is July 1 in the same year of desired enrollment term.

Spring (January) entry:

Application deadline for on-campus programs is October 1 in the previous year of desired enrollment term.

Application deadline for the distance learning program is November 1 in the previous year of desired enrollment term.

Application requirements

Please note a GPA of 3.25 or equivalent is strongly recommended for MS admission and 3.5 for PhD admission.

The necessary items to be submitted when applying are:

  1. Online Application
  2. Academic Statement of Purpose
  3. Personal History Statement
  4. Official Transcripts (international students need original language AND English translations).
    • Upload official transcripts (no student system or advising copies) to the application system. After being admitted, you will need to provide official transcripts in sealed envelopes to the Graduate School.
    • International applicants must upload a copy of any diplomas or provisional certificates if diplomas have not yet been awarded (original language and English translations).
  5. Three letters of recommendation (submitted by recommenders online)
  6. Official GRE (general test)
    • Expected GRE scores for all students:
      • Verbal: 156
      • Quantitative: 159
      • Analytical: 4.0
    • Send scores to Purdue, institution code 1631
    • Upload score report to your application as miscellaneous supporting document (optional)
    • GRE scores considered valid for up to five years if you have taken the test before
    • Note: the GRE is not required for graduates from Purdue AAE's BSAAE program, current Purdue AAE undergraduates, or students with 3 years of relevant professional experience (excludes internship and student research experiences). Email Jon Mrozinski after submitting your application online (status is at Awaiting Materials) for assistance in getting the scores waived.
  7. TOEFL scores (international only)
    • Cannot be more than two years old
    • TOEFL iBT must have minimum scores of:
      • Writing: 18
      • Speaking: 18
      • Listening: 14
      • Reading: 19
      • TOTAL: 80
    • TOEFL Essentials must have minimum scores of:
      • Writing: 8.0
      • Speaking: 8.0
      • Listening: 8.0
      • Reading: 8.0
      • OVERALL: 8.0
    • Send scores to Purdue, institution code 1631 (scores will not reflect in the application until [1] the application has been submitted and [2] the system batch processes run, which can be a few working days after the application is submitted)
    • Upload score report to your application as miscellaneous supporting document (optional)
    • Note: if you received a degree within the past 36 months from a school where English is the primary instruction language AND the school was in one of the recognized English-speaking countries, your TOEFL can be waived. Please check the Graduate School's website for recognized English-speaking countries. Email Jon Mrozinski after submitting your application online (status is at Awaiting Materials) for assistance in getting the scores waived.
    • IELTS and Duolingo English scores in line with the Graduate School's requirements are also accepted; please see their page for more information.
  8. Resume
  9. All PhD hopefuls: You will need a commitment from one of our faculty to be your PhD advisor in order to be admitted to the PhD objective; please be proactive in reaching out to faculty in searching for a PhD advisor.
