2025 Graduate Student Experience in the Research University (SERU) Survey

Priority: No
College Calendar: Show
The gradSERU (Graduate Student Experience in the Research University, IRB-2021-25-Exempt) is a nationwide survey for graduate university students. It’s especially designed for large, public research universities that, like Purdue, serve large and diverse student populations and provide many academic and social opportunities both in and out of the classroom. Purdue University uses this survey as the primary benchmarking tool to assess student experiences with academics, advising, student life, campus climate, health and wellness, and much more. Faculty and staff from all over campus, at all levels, use the data to help with decision-making and strategic planning. Student organizations can also use the data to advocate for specific student needs. Because the data are so valuable and widely used, a high response rate is imperative for accuracy.

(per Purdue Today: https://www.purdue.edu/newsroom/purduetoday/2025/Q1/graduate-students-invited-to-participate-in-graduate-student-experience-survey)

Purdue University graduate students are invited to complete the gradSERU survey (IRB-2021-25-Exempt), a comprehensive tool used to gauge graduate student experiences. This is one of the only university wide surveys given to West Lafayette, Indianapolis and Purdue Online graduate students. Insights from the survey are used by leaders across the university to inform decisions impacting graduate students.

Participation incentives: All graduate students who complete the survey will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of 60 Amazon gift cards at $50 each. Additionally, if the response rate reaches 25%, an extra drawing will be held, with five winners each receiving a $200 Amazon gift card.

Faculty and staff support: Faculty and staff are encouraged to promote the survey among graduate students to help achieve a high response rate, ensuring that the data collected is both comprehensive and actionable.

The gradSERU is administered by Institutional Data Analytics + Assessment. More information about the survey is available on the gradSERU webpage.
