New course: IE 590 Introduction to Optimization
New course that may be of interests to students for Spring 2025 (online and residential). Origianl announcement forwarded to us:
IE 590 Introduction to Optimization course that I wanted to share out with all of you in case you have students still looking for a course for Spring. The course information has been updated on our website Introduction to Optimization — The Robert H. Buckman College of Engineering Online Education Program.
Course Objective: The objective of this course is to provide hands-on training in identifying and solving various types of real-world optimization problems. Students will be trained to identify, formulate, and subsequently use available software–specifically Excel–to solve common types of optimization problems. Optimization is an extremely powerful and economically important tool for decision-making in the modern world, and this course will train students to use the tool in various contexts.
This course seems like it would be a good on ramp course if needed for new students who may be interested in some of the more popular courses and are unable to get in to them for Spring.
