I am sure you are all ready for a break. Thanksgiving vacation is a great time to apply for job opportunities and graduate school or to polish up your resume and LinkedIn account. Putting in a little extra time over the holiday when you don’t have classes can really help with your job search. While meeting with family and friends over the break, you could also practice your elevator speech and ask for their feedback. Meeting and talking with a variety of people is a great way to “practice” your networking skills. In addition, by speaking with people about EEE and your specific interests you might learn about a job opportunity!
Not sure how to network? Here are some tips to get you started. The tips at the end for starting conversation are in regard to noncareer fair discussions. When you have a short time meeting with a recruiter you need to talk about your interests and skills and relate them to the company. Some networking tips are found here.
As we head into the end of the fall semester, many of you have or will be hearing from companies. If you have a job offer, check out the CCO online. The CCO gives some good information on evaluating job offers, negotiating aspects of your position, and even how to professionally accept or decline an offer: https://www.cco.purdue.edu/Students/JobOffersandNegotiation. The Career Portal provides online free support for the job search via employer research, salary date, and interview and resume guides. If you have questions on an offer or on comparing offers and would like advice, contact me. I have helped many EEEs with salaries and negotiating their offers.
MyPurdue Emergency Contact Updates
There is a new card titled "Emergency Contacts" in your MyPurdue portal. It displays the primary emergency contact only. To release an Emergency Contact Hold, navigate to the Emergency Contacts card and click the "VERIFY" button. To edit, add, delete, or change the order of their emergency contacts, they must visit the MyPurdue "My Personal Information" card.
Microsoft Multi-factor Authentication to replace Duo Mobile
In January 2026, Purdue will adopt Microsoft multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all university accounts systemwide. This will simplify the MFA process for all users and eliminate the need for Duo Mobile. All users will be required to enroll with Microsoft MFA to access Purdue applications including email and those protected by Purdue Single-Sign-On (SSO) such as SuccessFactors, Brightspace, myPurdue, etc. Purdue IT recommends users set up at least two MFA methods (ex: Microsoft Authenticator app and SMS Codes). To add an additional authentication method, see: How to change Microsoft MFA authentication methods. See full article here.

LEED Green Associate Certification
EEE students should understand that LEED is one professional certification. Earning a PE license in engineering requires considerably more education, knowledge and experience, and all EEE graduates are qualified to eventually earn a PE license, which is significantly more valuable. On occasion, an EEE student will ask about LEED. LEED is more within the domain of the Arch Engr group within Civil. The LEED Green Associate (GA) credential is the only entry level sustainability designation and shows employers and clients that you have certified knowledge in the green building industry. Most people can take a short course and pass the LEED certification test. As a courtesy, the following info is being provided. It is not required or necessarily endorsed.

See the Fall 2025 Welcome Letter, Let's Talk Drop-in Flyer, Anxiety Toolbox Flyer, or Wellness Workshop Poster for more information on CAPS events this semester.
FYE Academic Success Program is Seeking Volunteer Mentors
First-Year Engineering is seeking upper-class students to be mentors for the First-Year Engineering students that are on Academic Notice for the Spring 2026 semester. You can read more information about the ASP program here. If you would like SEE to nominate you for consideration, please contact Tammi Thayer (thayert@purdue.edu) no later than Monday, Nov 24 by 9AM.
Mentors are expected to meet with their mentee(s) two times per month for about 20-30 minutes each time, starting in February through April. Most mentors will only have 1-2 mentees assigned to them. There will be a brief meeting at the start of the semester to go over best practices and give mentors an opportunity to share ideas with each other. FYE would like to have mentors paired up with a mentee by the end of the second week of spring classes. It’s not a paid position but you can add the experience/skills acquired to your resume - mentors' focus is on having conversations with the student about how to keep organized, how to manage their time, study, take effective notes, and where you go when help is needed.
