After Patrick Tiffany's departure any of his students still needing to meet with an EEE advisor will now meet with Tammi Thayer, and received an email from her on 2/23 with a new appointment link. All EEE students - please take action soon to follow the required steps and arrange necessary appointments. Click to see the Fall 2023 Registration newsletter.
EEE 48000 Senior Design and EEE 48100 Reflective Practitioner
Current EEE juniors may be wondering about Senior Design next year. The mainstream senior design course for EEE is EEE 48000. Students take this course in their final full academic year (fall-spring) and work on the same team with the same sponsor/client through that year. Projects are coordinated, and teams formed, by the instructional team. This year the instructional team is Prof. Nies, Prof. Mulrow, and Ms. Whelton. You can learn more about projects from over the years on the EEE site at Current Undergraduate Students-> Opportunities for Enrichment-> Senior Design.
Rising EEE seniors are also welcome and encouraged to enroll EEE 48100 Reflective Practitioner, a new 1 credit course being taught by Prof. Lindsey Payne this fall. See the attached course flyer for more details. Specific course content questions can be directed to Prof. Payne. If interested in enrolling, speak with Tammi Thayer about the course during your registration appointment.
Job Corner with Ms. Whelton, PE
If you are looking for summer job opportunities there is still time. I will continue to send emails about opportunities.
The CCO is a great place to find both full time and internship related opportunities. I don’t post their opportunities. If you don’t have a CCO account or haven’t looked at it this semester, please go to here. The jobs tab of Linked In is another great way to look for jobs or even using general job search engines. Don’t forget that research counts as related experience!
There is one more career fair to look for job opportunities, the Just in Time career fair on April 19th. There are also informational sessions still going on which are a great way to connect with employers. Currently Manhard Consulting and NextEra Energy are companies of interest that have sessions coming up after spring break. Keep checking to see if more are added and to see if there are others that interest you.
The CCO is also hosting a virtual negotiation event. Might be good to attend. I’m also here to help you with your personal negotiation, job offer, career path and resume. Just email me to make an appointment.
Have a relaxing and refreshing spring break!

2023 Intelligent Water Systems Challenge
The LIFT program, a joint effort of the Water Environment Federation (WEF) and the Water Research Foundation (WRF), is once again holding the Intelligent Water Systems Challenge to demonstrate the value of intelligent water systems to utilities and thereby foster the adoption of smart water technologies. The guidance document and FAQs are available here.
The Challenge gives professors, students, professionals, and technology aficionados the opportunity to showcase their talents and innovation, with a focus on leveraging data using the best available tools to help utilities better understand the dynamics of complex systems and make better decisions. I cannot emphasize this enough – the Challenge is a great opportunity for both undergraduate and graduate students to partner with nearby utilities and apply what they are learning to real-world data. We will be holding a Q&A-style webinar in early April, where representatives from past finalist teams will be available to answer questions about their submissions and the Challenge in general.
The Challenge, which launched in January, will run until October 2, 2023, and provides a top prize of at least $10,000.00. We encourage professors and students to submit applications. Please see press release for general information or visit www.wef.org/IWS-challenge for further details.
