Two IE seniors, Mayank Garg and Daniel Huerta, received the 2011 SIGM Dean's Award last month. The award was given to the top few students from a participant pool of 125.

The Summer Institute for General Management provides exceptional juniors, seniors, and recent college graduates the unique opportunity to learn from Stanford's world-renowned MBA faculty.

Speaking of his experience at SIGM, Mayank had the following words to say, "Getting selected for Stanford GSB - SIGM program and then achieving the Dean’s award was by far one of the best experiences of my life. It was hard to leave, when the program ended as you get so attached with the fellow ‘SIGMates’ and the faculty that you just want to stay longer. SIGM not only taught me general management skills but also introduced me to so many good friends, whom I would stay in touch forever. SIGM is all about meeting young professionals, who are aiming at changing the things in the society. Everyone has a different perspective of looking at things, which amazes me. The faculty is so helpful that they want the students to learn as much as possible. There are endless number of opportunities to meet successful professionals in the bay area, who have so much to give us. Life is lived by learning new things everyday and having fun at the same time. You just have to balance both to be a happy and a successful person."

Sharing Mayank's enthusiasm, Daniel told us about his experience at SIGM, "SIGM was an incredible experience. Besides acquiring a solid understanding of business fundamentals, it provided me with the opportunity to interact with such young talented people form all over the world. This program made me realize that I still have a long way to go in order to be a successful business leader in today's competitive world; it requires one to be academically exceptional, willing to work hard, and dedicated while having a human side that involves a positive impact in the community. Similarly, SIGM made me realize that Purdue has not only prepared me enough to be an outstanding industrial engineer, but also an individual with the capabilities to go beyond expectations and aim for 'impossible' goals."

The School of Industrial Engineering is proud of their achievements, and would like to congratulate and wish them luck for many more future accomplishments in their lives.
