IE student awarded for outstanding service

The School of Industrial Engineering congratulates Martin Yi Zhang who has been selected by the College of Engineering to receive an Outstanding Service Scholarship of $2,000 in recognition of his contributions to the school, college, and university.

As a current Ph.D. student specializing in manufacturing in the School of Industrial Engineering and the President of the IE GSO, Zhang has set a good example for all graduate students with his outstanding service and impressive research profile. His research in the BMNM Lab mainly focuses on laser coating of multilayer bioceramics in medical applications, and laser treatment of semiconductor materials in solar cell applications. "The combination of all the above is precious and will enable him to develop a career that will make Purdue proud, " said Richard Liu, professor and associate head of industrial engineering.
