Bradley Duerstock named Associate Professor of Engineering Practice

Dr. Bradley Duerstock
Dr. Bradley Duerstock is now an Associate Professor of Engineering Practice in BME and IE. In this position, Dr. Duerstock will apply his unique practical experience with assistive technology (AT) to engage and collaborate with students, staff members, and faculty members in the development of AT. AT relates to any equipment or process that provides persons with disabilities greater access to or independence in their daily lives and performing educational, occupational, or healthcare-related activities.

As an Associate Professor of Engineering Practice, Dr, Duerstock will likely also be involved with projects course in BME and IE and supervise AT related senior design projects in each school, involving Purdue students in practice environments wherein developed AT technologies can be readily applied.  In addition, his responsibilities will include the design, development, and testing of novel AT, assessment of AT usage in practical settings, customization for individuals, and the translation of derived technological solutions for practical use.

Dr. Duerstock received a BSE in Biomedical Engineering from Purdue and a PhD in Neurobiology, also from Purdue.  He has dedicated his career to discovering and testing new ways to repair damage caused by traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries. Additionally, he has provided and continues to develop innovative resources for students and scientists with mobility and visual impairments. Dr. Duerstock's work enables students with disabilities to be self-sufficient and to participate in hands-on laboratory experiments.
