About

Catherine McGeoch (recently retired), has been a member of the Benchmarking Team at D-Wave for about a decade. Prior to that she was on the faculty of Amherst College for about three decades. Her research interests are in developing methodologies for empirical study of algorithms and heuristics, with recent focus on quantum annealing platforms. She was a founding co-chair of the DIMACs Challenges, and of the ALENEX meetings on algorithm engineering and experiments, and is past Editor in Chief of the ACM Journal on Experimental Algorithmics. She is the author of two books, one on experimental algorithmics and one on adiabatic quantum computing and quantum annealing.

Quantum annealing for AI (and Security)

The first half of the talk will present a brief introduction to annealing-based quantum computing (QA), with an overview of recent results from performance studies. The second half will survey publications that describe use of annealing QPUs to solve problems in AI (with focus on applications in security). I’ll finish with a quick overview of open questions relating to the use of AI to solve problems relating to quantum annealing.
