“I truly love this major and I enjoy participating in organizations that promote EEE,” says Jennifer. “Receiving this scholarship twice has made me feel very appreciated for my actions both in and out of the classroom.”

Currently a Senior completing her B.S. in Environmental and Ecological Engineering, Jennifer has served as secretary of SEEE, is a peer teaching assistant for professor Larry Nies, and has been a devoted member of the Purdue Student Engineering Foundation (PSEF) for three years. Jennifer was also featured in the Summer 2022 issue of Engineering Impact as a Purdue College of Engineering Dean’s Leadership Scholar.

In Summer 2022, Jennifer completed an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) internship at a soybean refinery for Cargill in Gainesville, GA, which she secured during Purdue’s Industrial Roundtable Fair. At Cargill, Jennifer completed chemical and solid waste inventories, updated the Title V report for the Georgia Environmental Protection Division to keep up with air emission compliance, and posted safety boards on a variety of hazards for the benefit of 300+ employees. She also had to opportunity to travel to Cargill's headquarters in Minneapolis, MN and network with other interns and engineers and learn more about Cargill's other business groups.

“My advice for younger students looking for internships is to utilize LinkedIn,” recommends Jennifer. “At the beginning of my junior year, I found EEE alumni who had jobs or career paths that interested me and asked if they were available for a brief interview. These interviews had a huge impact on my academic and professional career. They provided insight into what alumni liked/disliked about their roles, how they obtained them, and ultimately, what I would find attractive in a certain position or company.”

Why EEE?

“I chose Purdue EEE because it is on the smaller side, which has allowed me to create stronger relationships with my peers and professors by seeing them on a daily or weekly basis. I also appreciate the gender diversity, since EEE is about 50% female.”

After graduation, Jennifer will begin a full-time position in July 2023 as an Assistant Environmental Consultant with Burns & McDonnell in their Atlanta, Georgia office. This position will focus on EHS compliance work and environmental design work using CAD related software.

Outside of academics, Jennifer stays active by walking, biking, working out and also has a particular love for animals.
