CE Professor Satish Ukkusuri has been selected by the National Academy of Engineering to attend the Japan-America Frontiers of Engineering (JAFOE), along with 60 other engineers who have all been determined by the academy to be future leaders of the engineering field. The event will be June 16-18 in Irvine, California.

CE grad student V. Dimitra Pyrialakou has received the prestigious Leadership Legacy Graduate Scholarship through the Women's Transportation Seminar Greater Chicago Area chapter.

The Purdue University Board of Trustees on Saturday (Dec. 19) ratified Srinivas Peeta as the Jack and Kay Hockema Professor in Civil Engineering. Peeta is a professor of civil engineering and director of the NEXTRANS Center at Purdue. He came to Purdue in 1994 as an assistant professor of civil engineering. He became associate professor in 2000 and was named professor in 2006.

Purdue CE students Aishwarya Puranam, Lucas Laughery, and William Pollalis represented Purdue in the 9th International Bridge Contest. They competed against 11 teams from around the globe, and Purdue placed first in the competition for the fifth time in six years.

Civil Engineering graduate student Julie Yu Qiao has been awarded the Neville A. Parker Science & Technology award for an outstanding MS non-thesis research report. This award is given by the Council of University Transportation Centers (CUTC) and is sponsored by the American Roads and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA).

Nadya Zyaykina has received the 2015 College of Engineering New Employee Award. Dr. Zyaykina holds a joint position as lab manager for the Lyles School of Civil Engineering and Environmental and Ecological Engineering and supports the environmental laboratories in Hampton Hall.

Prof. Julio Ramriez will deliver a keynote lecture at the XX Congress of Earthquake Engineering in Acapulco, Mexico. The conference is presented by the Mexican Society of Earthquake Engineering, and this year's theme is "Resilience of our structures 30 years after the 1985 earthquake."

A team of CE researchers working with NIST have been selected to receive the ACI Chester Paul Siess Award for Excellence in Structural Research for his co-authored paper, "Experimental Study of Reinforced Concrete Assemblies under Column Removal Scenario."

Ph.D. student Hamed Zamenian is the recipient of a $2000 scholarship from the Indiana Chapter of the International Air and Waste Management Association for his active participation and outstanding leadership as a student member and former Vice President and Treasurer of the Purdue Student Chapter of the Air and Waste Management Association (PAWMA).

The National Academy of Construction (NAC) inducted several Purdue alumni as new members during their annual meeting on Kiawah Island, South Carolina.

This lecture will explore the artistic legacy of CE Professor Emeritus Aldo Giorgini, and provide some contextual information about the bold, geometric pieces featured in the exhibit. It will be held on Monday, November 30th, 5:30-7:00pm in the HSSE Library.

The Board of Trustees has approved the naming of Rodrigo Salgado as the Charles Pankow Professor in Civil Engineering. Salgado has been a professor of civil engineering since 2003. He came to Purdue in 1993 as an assistant professor of civil engineering and became an associate professor of civil engineering in 1999.

Purdue University professional flight students are receiving a $795 reduction in semester fees as a direct result of an updated aircraft usage plan. The new fee structure is expected to save students $250,000 over the next two academic years. John Mott, associate head for aviation technology, assembled a team of Purdue researchers to collect real-time data on the university's fleet of Cirrus SR-20 aircraft. The team included Darcy Bullock, director of Purdue's Joint Transportation Research Program, and civil engineering graduate student Maggie McNamara.

Paul Imbrock (BSCE '11), the founder of a startup based on a Purdue University innovation says the company could help managers of state transportation departments and other large-scale consumers of concrete extend the lifetime of their concrete investments.

A new study reveals a pressing need to better understand water use in America's rivers, with implications for drought-stricken regions of the country. Findings from the study showed that virtually all of the water entering the Wabash River in Indiana during summer months is withdrawn and then returned to the waterway.
