Midwest Hyperloop, a team that includes Purdue, Cincinnati and Illinois, will compete in the 2019 Hyperloop Pod Competition at SpaceX Headquarters in Hawthorne, California, this week.

Geoffrey Andrews, a Ph.D. student, is leading a summer group comprised of local high school students in designing, building and flying a high altitude balloon.

In a College of Engineering Medium.com post, Loral O'Hara (MSAAE '09) said, "Tt feels like there's a level of energy and an amount of momentum [about human space exploration] that I haven't felt in my lifetime. I'm very optimistic."

Inseok Hwang, a professor, and AAE students Raj Deshmukh and Dawei Sun received the award at the USA & Europe Air Traffic Management Research and Development Seminar.

Vestigo Aerospace LLC will receive $125,000 from a NASA Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant. Vestigo was founded by David Spencer, an associate professor in AAE.

Tim Harmon, Chesterfield Janes and Ron Larsen will speak on a panel, “Industry’s Crucial Role in the Apollo 11 Mission,” at 5 p.m. July 20 at Loeb Playhouse in the Stewart Center.

A small satellite that will attempt the first controlled solar sailing in Earth orbit is a go for launch. David Spencer is the lead for LightSail 2, part of a payload that is scheduled to launch June 24 on SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy rocket.
