AAE 535 Propulsion DBT students develop 3D printer for hybrid grains

A group of students has developed a 3D printer for hybrid grains as part of the spring 2014 AAE 535 Propulsion Design, Build, Test course. The course, taught by Dr. Timothee Pourpoint, associate professor in AAE, is intended to provide students with information on the design requirements, standard methods, and tools to develop propulsion systems.

Purdue payload flies on first test flight of Orion vehicle

Items representing Purdue University's contributions to flight and space history flew onboard last week's first test of Orion from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station's Space Launch Complex. Purdue is the alma mater of 23 NASA astronauts. Items included a photo of Neil Armstrong (BSAAE'55, DEA'67, HDR'70, OAE'99) and Eugene Cernan (BSEE'56, HDR'70, OECE'92).

Purdue Engineering names 2014 pre-eminent teams, School of AAE faculty members among researchers

Purdue University's College of Engineering has named four pre-eminent teams to focus on research ranging from drug delivery to nanomanufacturing. One of the four teams is headed by and comprised of School of Aeronautics and Astronautics faculty members: Dr. Sergey Macheret; Dr. Alina Alexeenko; and Dr. Sally Bane. Team members Dr. Timothy Fisher and Dr. Robert Lucht, professors of Mechanical Engineering, are faculty members in the School of AAE by courtesy.

School of AAE to host Orion EFT-1 launch watch party

Purdue University School of Aeronautics and Astronautics will host a watch party for the launch of NASA's Orion spacecraft on Thursday, December 4, 2014. The public is invited to attend the party beginning at 4:30 am in Kurz Atrium of Armstrong Hall. The launch is expected at 7:05 am.

Purdue University recognized Carol Armstrong on Friday, November 21, 2014 for the gift of papers valued at more than $3.4 million from her late husband, Neil A. Armstrong (BSAE'55, DEA'67, HDR'70, OAE'99), a 1955 School of Aeronautics and Astronautics graduate and the first person to step on the moon.

Purdue's Minority Engineering Program hosts 250 high school students; School of AAE faculty share expertise

Purdue University's College of Engineering Minority Engineering Program (MEP) hosted 250 ninth-grade students from ITW David Speer Academy in Chicago, IL on Friday, November 21, 2104. School of Aeronautics and Astronautics professors Dr. Mike Sangid (Structures & Materials) and Dr. Sally Bane (Aerodynamics), Managing Director of Maurice J. Zucrow Lab Scott Meyer, and School of AAE graduate students shared their expertise with the Academy students.
