CARL S. GRAN

The knowledge and skills that I acquired at Purdue opened the door to a stimulating and rewarding career in the national-security-space enterprise. I confess that my decision to attend Purdue was influenced by a Rose Bowl victory and NCAA Finals appearance. Only later did I learn that a Purdue education produces engineers who are held in highest regard by their peers for their outstanding engineering capabilities and strong work ethic. I thank my good fortune to have become a member of this extraordinary academic family. Carl Gran earned his BS, MS and PhD degrees in aeronautical and astronautical engineering from Purdue. Following graduation he joined The Aerospace Corporation, a California research and development center that provides general systems engineering and integration of national security space systems for the United States government.
At Aerospace, Gran is currently responsible for four engineering departments that specialize in propulsion, fluid mechanics, spacecraft thermal control, and vehicle flight mechanics. In previous leadership positions he supervised mission assurance and hardware acceptance activities for Titan launch vehicles, and he oversaw structural analyses performed for numerous spacecraft and launch vehicles. In short, Gran and his (many Purdue) colleagues apply engineering principles to save the world for democracy. Boilermakers rule.
THOMAS E. HAUETER
Director Office of Aviation Safety ~ National Transportation Safety Board (Retired)
I was very fortunate that I found a career that fit my personality, aviation interests, and drive to make meaningful accomplishments. I have received many notable awards and recognition both domestically and internationally. All of this has been possible because I chose to attend Purdue University. The School of Aeronautics and Astronautics provided me with a strong foundation upon which to build a successful career. Even being considered to be an Outstanding Engineer by the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics is the highlight of my career
Employed by the NTSB for over 28 years. Mr. Haueter has worked as an airworthiness investigator, an Investigator-in-Charge (IIC) of domestic aviation accidents, and as the U.S. Accredited Representative for foreign aviation accidents. Previously, Mr. Haueter was the Deputy Director and the Chief of the Major Investigations Division. As the Director of the Office of Aviation Safety, he is responsible of the investigation of all domestic aviation accidents and the NTSB support of major foreign aviation accidents. He was the IIC for the investigation of the USAir flight 427 accident, that resulted in the redesign of the rudder system on Boeing 737. He was the U.S. Accredited Representative on the accident involving a COPA Airlines Boeing 737. He was the IIC on the accident involving an Atlantic Southeast Airlines Embraer 120 at Brunswick, Georgia, that claimed the life of Senator John Tower and for the midair collision at Philadelphia that claimed the life of Senator Heinz. He was the lead NTSB investigator assisting the U.S. Air Force in the investigation of the CT-43A that crashed near Dubrovnik, Croatia, killing then Commerce Secretary Ron Brown and 22 others. Additionally, Mr. Haueter was an advisor to the space shuttle Columbia accident investigation Board.
Prior to joining the Safety Board, he worked at Tracor Incorporated as a program manager for research and development. He was previously employed by Telcom Incorporated as an engineer in the design and application of composite aircraft structures and assessments of emerging technologies. At Pratt & Whitney Aircraft he was structures engineer in gas turbine engine design.
His educational background includes an MBA in Operations Research and International Business from George Mason University, and a BS Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from Purdue University. He holds a commercial pilots license with multi-engine and instrument ratings, and regularly flies a 1943 Stearman airplane that he restored.
Mr. Haueter retired from the NTSB in June 2012. He is an independent Aviation Safety and Accident Investigation consultant.
ERIKA J. PEARSON

Erika Pearson is Business Director / Deputy Vice President of Asia Pacific and India Sales for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. She is responsible for managing Boeing's internal sales operation for the region. Pearson previously was Business Director / Deputy Vice President of Leasing and Asset Management. She joined Sales four years ago.
Prior to joining the Sales organization, Pearson was a Regional Director in Boeing Commercial Airplanes' Marketing organization. In that role she supported customers in the Americas including AirTran Airways and Northwest Airlines. Within the Marketing organization, Pearson also worked as an economic analyst, supporting sales campaign activity throughout Asia, Europe and the Americas.
Pearson joined Boeing in 1993 as an aerodynamics engineer in the Product Development organization. Early in her career, she also worked as a performance engineer providing sales support to customers in Africa, Australia and the Pacific Islands for all Boeing aircraft models.
Pearson is a 1993 graduate of Purdue University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering. In 2008, she was awarded an M.B.A. from the University of Washington Executive Program. She lives in Seattle, WA with her husband and two children.
ROBERT I. SATTLER
President ~ LaSalle Machine Tools Inc. (Retired)
Study and work standards were transferable from the Navy and Purdue to a career in the Machine Tool Industry
Bob Sattler enlisted in the Navy V-12 program in 1944. The Navy sent Bob to DePauw University then transferred him to Purdue. Bob was discharged from the Navy in 1946 and finished his degrees at Purdue. Bob graduated from Purdue University in 1948 with bachelors' degrees in Aeronautical Engineering and Naval Science and Tactics. Bob has been a Registered Professional Engineer since 1952.
While at Purdue, Bob lettered in Baseball. One of the most memorable games was Purdue vs. Michigan. Bob pitched a one-hitter. He had no-hit laurels in his grasp with two out in the ninth inning when Jack Weisenburger singled for the Wolverines' lone hit of the afternoon. Bob struck out the next batter to end the game. Bob sat in the locker room waiting for coach Ray Schalk. When he got there he said, "Bob after this I want you to throw the ball as fast as you can at least three times during the game." Coach Schalk was one of the finest men I have ever known. He taught me Baseball. Bob also received 5 athletic awards. 2 baseball, 2 basketball and 1 football.
Memorable moments - first day in Professor Bruhn's class - he gave us all a test in airplane design (we all flunked). "It appears that you all require additional education in aeronautical engineering."
Bob has spent the past 60+ years in the Machine Tool Industry. During his time as President of LaSalle Machine Tool and ROBOGATE Machine Systems, he was instrumental in the design and production of TMS "Total Manufacturing Systems" and Body Assembly and Welding Systems worldwide. His time in the Navy, education from Purdue and experiences throughout his career has earned him several patents and awards. In 1997 the [National Machine Tool Builders Association] honored him with the "Living Legend" designation award. Thank you to the Navy V-12 program and the education I received at Purdue...Purdue provided the "Backbone" of education making a successful life in Machine Tool Industry a reality.
Bob is aged 86 and was born on 14 Jun 1926. He is married to Ilene and they have nine children

Terry has spent thirty years in the Royal Australian Air Force in a diversity of appointments, ranging from Chief Engineer in the Defence Force's flight test establishment, to staff officer to the Chief of the Defence Force, General Cosgrove.
Highlights in Terry's career include postgraduate study in the USA, and Senior Engineering Officer of 77 Squadron's fleet of F/A-18 Hornets.
He is currently Director General of Technical Airworthiness (DGTA) and is responsible for the regulation of technical airworthiness of Defence aircraft.

WILLIAM TED TORGERSON
Director/Program Manager, Proprietary Programs ~ The Boeing Company
I feel fortunate that I had such inspirational role models as I grew up and able to witness the monumental advances made in Aerospace over those years, especially July 20, 1969. The combination of these things led to my dream of being a part of the Aerospace Industry. I also feel fortunate that I was led to Purdue University where that dream was solidified into action and gave me the technical foundation I needed to add to skills I received from my parents and brothers. I have now been a part of the Aerospace Industry for 29 years and I am happy to say, I still love designing, building, and testing advanced aircraft
Director/Program Manager of Special Programs in the Boeing Company's Phantom Works division. In this role his assignments include Portfolio and Program Management. He is a strong leader with demonstrated performance in the integration of large, complex military aircraft systems. He has built and led diverse teams from multiple Boeing sites and across many organizations and companies.
Prior to that assignment, Torgerson was the Director of Air Vehicle Development on the Navy UCAS X-45N and on the Joint Unmanned Combat Air System X-45C, now Phantom Ray. He has more than 29 years of management, supplier management and engineering experience in propulsion and signature reduction technology development and integration, system engineering, and in developing prototype vehicles including the X-45A and X-45C. During his assignment on the X-45A program, leading the air vehicle system engineering, integration and test Integrated Product Team, the air vehicle development team was awarded the AIAA 2003 Aircraft Design Award. He was involved in Boeing's tactical unmanned vehicle efforts from 1995 through 2007. He lead the early NASA Langley Unmanned Combat Air vehicle study that assessed key missions for UCAV's and the technologies needed to realize them.
He started his career in 1983 working propulsion Internal and Contracted Research and Development projects, moving on to several proprietary programs. He then worked the ASTOVL/CTOL program in the areas of signature integration and propulsion integration.
Torgerson was born in Kalispell Montana. He holds a bachelor's degree from Purdue's School of Engineering in Aeronautical and Astronautical engineering (1983). He also holds a master's degree in engineering management from The Washington University in St. Louis (1991). He is married to Terry with two children, Chris and Erin. He is very active in the community, currently the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Lutheran High School Association in St. Louis and represents Boeing on the Industrial Advisory Board for the School of Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering at Purdue.
JOHN J. WALSH

John Walsh has served as Vice President of Sypris Solutions (Nasdaq/NM: SYPR) and as President of its subsidiary, Sypris Electronics, since March of 2008. Sypris is a long standing leader in Cryptography and high assurance (Type 1) systems. Sypris has it sights on taking Cyber Security to new heights in response to the Advanced Persistent Threat (APT).
Mr. Walsh is a former leader in the Missile Defense Initiative and renowned expert in lean engineering and Six-Sigma. Mr. Walsh has transformed the Sypris mission focusing on securing our nations networks, critical infrastructure, aircraft, and military systems introducing disruptive technologies for: Cyber Defense Network Assurance (Cyber DNA), High Assurance Controls Systems, Trusted Analysis/Analytics, and Trusted Design /Manufacturing Supply Chain Risk Management. Teaming with the best innovation from Silicon Valley and Centers of Academic Excellence, Sypris launched advanced products and services in Security to the edge incorporating COMSEC Type I and Crypto Key Management expertise for end point attribute based Identity/Asset Authentication. John led the development of the Sypris Cyber Range, one of the cores to their leap ahead cyber solutions, test bed, and services. The company is a pioneer in developing methods for securing the cyber "last mile" developing High Assurance Cyber Systems for the military and critical infrastructure. The company is managed from its base of operations in Tampa, Florida.
Prior to joining Sypris, Walsh served as President of Ducommun Technologies, Incorporated (DCO on NYS) where he grew the company organically and through acquisitions in the areas of Homeland Security, defense electronics, missile defense, space, DOD, DOE, NASA, and telecommunications. Prior to Ducommun, John was the COO for Special Devices, Inc. (SDI) where he transformed the company into a world-class manufacturing operation and a leading manufacturer of automotive pyrotechnic safety components in North America, Europe and Asia.
Before SDI, John was the Director of Ensign-Bickford (EB) Company's Aerospace and Defense Group, reporting to the CEO. During his tenure, he restructured the business resulting in increased revenues and profits in excess of 350%. Before EB, John worked at ATK where he led the company's efforts in response to President Reagan's Strategic Defense Initiative, innovating new technologies in solid propellant control systems changing the Government's acquisition strategy leading to the development and deployment of the SM3 Blk IV Navy Aegis Upper Tier System. John has received awards from President G.H. Bush, Prime Minister M. Thatcher, Missile Defense Agency, ATK for outstanding technical achievements. He holds patents/pending in aerospace weapons, automotive safety, commercial mining, and identity authentication.
Mr. Walsh received his Bachelors of Science degree from Purdue University's School of Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering and his MBA from St. Joseph's University, graduating first in his class. He is certified as a Director by UCLA's Anderson School Directors Program and is a member of Purdue University's Engineering and, the University of California-Irvine's Paul Merage Business School, Advisory Boards.

Glenn Weissinger is Vice President of Strategic Planning for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company. Mr. Weissinger leads the department responsible for developing the Aeronautics Strategic Plan; conducting environmental, budget, market, and competitor assessments; analyzing strategic options; developing campaign strategies; and conducting business development operations research analyses to ensure the long-term success of the Aeronautics business area.
Mr. Weissinger has more than 30 years of experience in technical and management positions at General Dynamics and Lockheed Martin. In 1978, he joined the then-General Dynamics Corporation operation in Fort Worth, Texas. In 1985, he became Engineering Chief, Economic & Systems Engineering Analysis with management responsibility for the development and application of life cycle cost, operations & support cost, defense budget forecasting, technical/schedule/cost risk analysis and systems engineering requirements decomposition analyses.
In 1988, Mr. Weissinger was promoted to Manager, Battlefield Simulation Development. In this assignment, he was manager of several engineering groups with the responsibility for software development, verification & validation and laboratory operations for the Battlefield Integration Center -a man-in-the-loop, equipment-in-the-loop simulator of integrated battlefield operations.
Starting in 1991, Mr. Weissinger led a number of special assignments at General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin, including the development of requirements and management of trade studies for the development of advanced aircraft programs; assessments of the implications of acquisition reform initiatives; and assessments of economic, budgetary and military trades impacting defense planning for the United States and international customers.
He was promoted to Director, Strategic Planning for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, in 2005 and assumed his current position of Vice President, Strategic Planning, in 2008.
Mr. Weissinger has a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical & Astronautical Engineering from Purdue University and a Master of Science degree in Industrial Administration from the Krannert School of Management at Purdue. He is a member of the Purdue University School of Aeronautics & Astronautics Industrial Advisory Council and the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University School of Business Industry Advisory Board. Glenn has been married to his wife Helen since 1986.
