Job Corner with Ms. Whelton, PE
What a busy couple of weeks with IR! Thank you to all who attended SEE Company Night! We greatly appreciate your participation. I am collecting feedback on the event. Please let me or one of the SEE ambassadors who helped with the event know of suggestions (positive and negative) you’d like to provide.
There are still more career fairs happening in the fall that you should attend. First is the CCE Career Fair -
The Civil and Construction Engineering Career Fair (Oct 15th in person) will be held at the CoRec from 9am to 3pm. The CE Career Fair already has their information sessions penciled in the night of October 14th in Hampton Hall. Please note they also have an interview day on Oct 16th this year. This is a newer feature so I’m not sure how many companies will be conducting interviews on campus. Information will be updated here for the fair. This fair will mainly feature consulting firms and there will be many EEE alums present. This is the last large career fair of the semester so be sure to attend if you’re looking for a job. Although it is a larger career fair, it is not remotely as crowded as IR since the targe majors are CCE and EEE. They are using the Simplicity app this year. This is the first year they have used an app for the career fair.
The Ag Fair is on October 6th at the CoRec from 10:00am-3:00pm. See who is attending here. The Ag Fair is on the Simplicity App. Please be sure to mark that you are attending and upload your resume to the event for company attendees easy access to your resume. Someone may contact you! Since this is outside of engineering, EEE isn’t listed. Look for environmentally related companies and those wanting environmentally related Ag focuses like NRES and ENRE. Anyone who makes something has an environmental need. Past EEEs have worked for Hormel, Land O Lakes, and Cargill. In particular, an EEE alum will be in attendance for KCI Technologies which focuses on ecological engineering. Several EEEs have worked in both internship and fulltime capacity with this company. If you are interested in ecological engineering and restoration, be sure to visit them!
I know your time is limited, so I always recommend attending IR and the CCE Career Fair in the fall. Go to the Ag Fair if you have time or you have a specific interest in working for Ag companies. If you are interested in ecological engineering/restoration, please go see KCI Technologies at the Ag Fair this year.
The CCO has resources that can help you in the job search. They can review your resume, give a mock interview, and offer workshops to aid you in the process of looking for employment. They also have information sessions listed that are scheduled through CCO. Check here for all CCO related events on campus: https://www.cco.purdue.edu/calendar. PG&E has an informational session today, Friday 9/25 at 3pm in ARMS. Although listed as an info session, it also will include a presentation on the future of energy by Purdue alum and PG&E CCO Patty Poppe. If you’re interested in the energy sector, this may be an event for you to attend. There have been quite a few recent events and informational sessions with companies listed on the CCO calendar. Keep checking the CCO calendar for events as it is continually updated.
For international students, there is a CCO workshop work visa options after graduation which features an immigration lawyer on 10/6 from 3-4pm. It is virtual but registration is required. This is a great opportunity to speak professionals familiar with the visa process.
Did you know you can even practice your interview skills at the CCO? You can schedule a mock interview through them. This is a great way to practice your sales pitch! You can schedule a mock interview Monday to Friday during normal business hours here under “Undergraduates-Quick Chat-Peer Mock Interview”: https://www.cco.purdue.edu/Students/WhatWeOffer. You can also do an interview via Big Interview virtually here.
