Nuclear power is an important resource in meeting the world’s increasing need for clean energy. It is a time of great transition for the nuclear industry and the Purdue University Reactor Number One (PUR-1) is no exception. Indiana’s only nuclear reactor is transitioning to keep pace with the technological demands of education, research, and industry.

Due to some exciting renovations and upgrades to the reactor and the Electrical Engineering building, we are currently unable to offer tours of the facility. In the meantime, please watch this video to learn more about the history and operations at the PUR-1 facility.

We are now scheduling tours for the Fall of 2017. Please feel free to reach out at that time to see the exciting new controls and instrumentation of PUR-1. We are also happy to give lectures on radiation principles, common natural sources of radiation, and of course nuclear energy. To set up a visit, please contact Clive Townsend, Reactor Supervisor/Assistant Lab Director at clive@purdue.edu or 765-494-5764.

For high school field trips to the reactor in Fall of 2017, please contact Clive Townsend, Reactor Supervisor/Assistant Lab Director at clive@purdue.edu or #765-494-5764. For high school field trips to campus to visit the School of Nuclear Engineering, please contact nuclss@purdue.edu.

Thanks for reaching out! Please allow us at least 48 hours to respond to you.

If you are requesting a tour, please choose four dates and times that you are available to visit. We can’t guarantee any time slot but do our best to accommodate schedules.
