IE Associate Professor Denny Yu honored with the 2024 IEA Outstanding Educator Award

Yu was recognized by the International Ergonomics & Human Factors Association (IEA) at their triennial congress in Jeju, Korea.

Awarded every three years, the award is one of eight prestigious triennial awards offered by the International Ergonomics Association. 

Yu recently traveled to Korea to take part in the congress, where he was presented with the award.

The award recognizes outstanding contributions to the area of ergonomics education for having:

  • Developed ergonomics education programs
  • Produced new methodology and/or materials for teaching ergonomics
  • Graduated persons who have become outstanding ergonomists

Yu is the 11th recipient of this award, and joins a list of recipients that have made significant contributions to the field of human factors and ergonomics, including Purdue Industrial Engineering Professor Emeritus Gavriel Salvendy (Awarded in 2003). The award is the latest of many for Yu, as he was named a Rising Star of Safety by the National Safety Council, as well as the IEA/Tsinghua Award for Collaborative Human Factors and Ergonomics Education. 

In addition to these awards, Yu also received a Fulbright Award to conduct research and co-instruct courses on human factors engineering and medical technologies at the Management Center Innsbruck in 2024.
 
The mission of the IEA is to elaborate and advance Human Factors / Ergonomics (HFE) science and practice, and to expand its scope of application and contribution to society to improve quality of life. It does this by working closely with its federated and affiliated societies, networks and related international organisations.
 
The main goals of the IEA are to develop more effective communication with and collaboration between federated societies, to advance the science and practice of HFE at an international level and to enhance the contribution of the HFE discipline to global society
