Ryan Villareal Named NSF Graduate Research Fellow
The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program will help support Villareal's research "Multimodal Physiological Sensing for Team Skill Evaluation in Virtual Reality Simulations"
Villareal, a 3rd year Ph.D. student who works with Associate Professor Denny Yu in the HEAL Lab, has stated that the research objective is to construct a sensor-based computational framework consisting of electrical activity in the brain, heart rate metrics, and verbal communication characteristics from each individual on a team to evaluate the team's overall skills and performance.
According to Villareal's research plan, this approach to assessing teamwork using virtual reality training scenarios will allow teams to receive immediate feedback without needing expert observation or coaching.
